“Great hotel to use as a base”
Reviewed 13 January 2008

We stayed here for three nights after a stay at Ezard House in Camps Bay, Cape Town. This hotel was completely different but very much in keeping with the style of the winelands. Prior to going Charmaine had helped us arrange a number of activities including dinner at Le Quartier Francais, just superb and very reasonable, lunch at Le Petite Ferme which is a must and also a private wine tasting tour, again very well organised and enjoyable.

We stayed in a standard room and it was excellent. The room had a large bedroom with balcony overlooking swimming pools, a large seating area with fireplace and bathroom with separate shower. The public areas were very nice, with complimentary sherry on offer and breakfast was served upstairs from a large lounge, allowing a lovely view from the balcony whilst enjoying the breakfast. The restaurant was good, but not the best in town – both Ruebens and Le Quartier Francais were better.

The hotel is located some 5 minutes drive from the town centre of Franschoek. The town itself is based around one main street which is lovely with some great galleries, restaurants and other shops, it really is a most beautiful town. Smaller that Stellenbosch and Paarl. The hotel is a great base for the whole area, and only being 45 minutes from Cape Town, I would have no hesitation to recommend it.

The Franschhoek Country House was perfect! We stayed here over our honeymoon and arrived very late as we were coming from Plett and made many worthwhile detours along the way. The staff were waiting for us when we arrived, knew who we were and immediately took us to our room. We quickly ordered dinner from their room service menu along with wine (of course!) and relaxed in our gorgeous room. The food and wine were both wonderful as was the service. The grounds exquisite, the view from our balcony was amazing. And the bathroom was fantastic. The House is located right in the thick of Franschhoek wine country and it was a quick and easy drive to other wineries for wine tastings the next day. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it highly - especially for newlyweds on their honeymoon. Franschhoek is the best of the wine region!

Stayed here recently for 3 nights as a base for a little wine tasting. My first comment is on Franschoek itself, terrific little place with a much nicer feel to it than Paarl or Stellenbosch.

We had booked a villa suite, which is in a separate complex of 12 suites around a fountain area. Very well presented rooms with a large patio area. Nothing negative to say on the room itself, only issue was that the villa we stayed in (15) was close to the pump house for the waterfalls, fountains etc. 24 hour "humming".

Service is impeccable, nothing is too much trouble.

I would consider the restaurant good, but not great, even by ZA standards. Great restaurants serve warm crisp bread, not cold rocks. Also the tasting menu service was very hurried. Worth a dinner, but be sure to try Reuben's and Haute Cabriere Cellar and judge for yourself.

Would I stay here again? Most certainly.

Found the Hotel via the Portfolio Collection website and checked it out via 'Trip Advisor'. The hotel lived up to and in many cases exceeded the good reviews given on this web site. What a great place to stay. We were only disappointed that we couldn't stay for longer than one night.
Although the weather was brilliant, we didnt have time to use the very inviting pool, but we did really enjoy the meal and wine in the restaurant. The peaceful sleep in the spacious room was wonderful after a busy schedule of travel along the Garden Route Route and Wine Route etc.
Thoroughly recommended for anyone wanting quality accommodation with good service and food.
We also loved the small town feel of Franschoek - it was much better than Stellenbosch - glad we decided to stay here.

A truely amazing place, the staff couldn't do enough for us, they were polite and attentive through out. Our rooms were lovely, large airey and clean with crisp white cotton bed linen. We ate at the restaraunt and the food was excellent. The hotel is set in a quiet town surrounded by mountains, well worth a visit for tranquility, luxury and R&R.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights during our 2-week ZA-trip.
As we were travelling with our little daughter (2 years) we had been looking for a nice place with a pool and a good restaurant in the house - in babyphone distance.
I found the place on the web and booked online.

We were delighted from the beginning! They gave us a beautiful, spacy room above the kitchen (no noise or odors) with a little cod for our toddler and even a teddy-bear present.
The service was very good and they tried to cater every need.
It's located in walking distance to the town center and it's save to walk, too.

The food in the restaurant is good and far above average for the ZA (which is not a culinary dreamland) and we could enjoy some quite cocktails at the bar with our little one quitely sleeping in the room just a 1 floor away. Perfect.

I can definitely recommend this hotel to anyone at it is worth it's price (not cheap!). We'll be back for longer next time!

This hotel was absolutely fantastic if you want to visit the Winelands area of South Africa. The rooms are set amongst gardens filled with waterfalls, lavender and lemons and smell heavenly. The rooms are large and the service in all areas of the hotel was excellent. There are two nice swimming pools, one heated, and the restaurant food was fantastic. Our waiter, Emile was also able to keep my husband up to date with all of the English football scores (not necessarily a bonus for me).! The hotel also recommended a wine tour run by a local lady, Christa, who was brilliant - well informed, fun and we had a brilliant morning with her after which we knew alot more about while and were quietly sozzled. Franschhoek is a beautiful village with upmarket shops and restaurants set in a lovely velley surrounded by huge mountains. DEFINITELY stay here if you can - we'll be returning as soon as we can.
