The Country House is set on the edge of town just off the main road. The courtyard has a central water fountain and great views of the surrounding mountains. The rooms are built around this central court yard. The rooms are quite elegant and tasteful. The entry way opens into a living room with a beautiful couch set in front of the fireplace. The living room is a great place to curl up in front of the fire and have a glass of wine. The beds are large, king beds and look out into the courtyard. The style feels very much like an English country house. The only downside to the rooms is that the bedrooms look out into the courtyard and don't feel very private. There is a balcony you can walk out to from the bedroom, but wearing your bathrobe in a public area may not be everybody's first choice.

The food was decent. It was well thought out for the wine pairings, but did not carry a lot of gusto on its own. Also, the wine pairing at dinner got a B- in my book. We had 4 different wines. Two were very tasty, one was okay, and one was flat out terrible. I'm definitely not picky with my wine, so for me to call a wine bad really means something. The bad wine didn't even blend well with its meal pairing. It was paired with the main course, which made the choice all the more noticeable. Overall, I give the dinner experience a 6 out of 10. Breakfast was a very tasty, healthy spread. That gets an 8/10.

The staff at the Country House are very friendly with the exception of the manager who showed us our rooms. He was in a huge rush and made the welcome procedure feel like a burden. This is really a minor critique though. The rest of the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable. Their responses to requests were on point and timely. I was impressed with them as a group.

Overall, this is a great place for a weekend get away or out-of-towners to get a feel for the South African wine country.

Villa Suites - perfect setting if you want to spend quality time, whether as a couple or family.
My Dad and Mom stayed in another Villa. Due to the separate lounge and patio in each villa we could chat away and still feel like we're on holiday.

Room Tip: Villa Suites

We booked a suite that was a nice size, but ours had seen better days. The carpet had spots, one chair had a huge water stain as did the carpet around it, and one of the light switches was so encrusted with gunk that I hated to touch it. We had a bad start at check-in with the front desk person giving us flat out wrong information about the internet and dragging us around the grounds in the rain without offering an umbrella (which they had in the lobby and at all the doors). The manager later apologized and after that we were treated extremely well. In fact, the staff gave special attention that we were celebrating my wife’s birthday with flowers in the room, candy, a glass of champagne (I didn’t arrange any of this). Breakfasts were nice and transfers to/from town were easy to arrange. We would stay here again.

We went there on business, and the staff made up the venue exactly to our liking. We had our session sitting on comfortable lounge suites with a fire burning. The conference room was turned into a warm, inviting, comfortable setting, totally conducive to the topic we were discussing. The staff exceeded our expectations. The rooms and villas absolutely stunning. The food was tasty and substantial. The restaurant is truly a place I would go back to eat at even if I am not staying over. My staff loved it! Stayed in the villa surrounded by beautiful gardens and trees. Very very spacious and luxurious.

Room Tip: I would definitely go for the villa rooms if you can afford it. The villas are a little piece of hea...

Franschhoek was our second stop on a two week South African tour. My husband, sister-in-law, and I drove to Franschhoek from Cape Town and stayed at Franschhoek Country House & Villas for 3 nights. We arrived in the evening and the first night we had dinner at the onsite restaurant Monneaux. It was one of the best meals we had on this trip that of amazing meals and food! I think we would have been more than satisfied if we'd dined there every night.

We each had our own villa and both were very lovely. The bed was comfortable, rooms were very clean, and bathrooms extremely spacious! The soaking tub was a welcome experience after a long day of wine tasting. The staff at Franschhoek Country House & Villas were very accommodating. We had an excellent half day wine tour with Kenny our first day there and we hired Kenny again for a full day wine tour the following day. He was fantastic!

Stayed here in a Villa for three night after CapeTown. The room was very spacious and well appointed, very comfortable.
The bathroom is as large as some hotel bedrooms, very luxurious.
The Villas are set in a beautiful garden with lemons everywhere.
Could not fault the restaurant so we ate there for all meals.
The only down side was that there was no bar staff at times to make a daiquiri but if that is really nothing to complain about.
Took a private car tour of the area and wineries was we would recommend.

Room Tip: Book the Villas for a bit more space

We stayed four nights at the Country House and Villas in Franschhoek. We enjoyed a ground floor villa which was beyond our expectation, large and well appointed. The staff made our every wish or need a priority making the service exceptional. We found the restaurant to be of the finest caliber with a well trained wait staff, food beautifully presented and extremely delicious. The grounds and location are wonderful, we were able to walk into the village as it is quite close although they provide a shuttle to and from the village. We plan to return to this beautiful place!
