Everywhere was crowded on a Saturday then we found this little white cottage towards Paarl on the left hand side just outside of town. As I walked in I could see a distinct Portuguese influence everywhere, boats and fishing nets etc hanging on the wall, it could have been Portugal, I know I used to live there.
It was pretty quiet and we were greeted by a very enthusiastic manager, working with a single waiter and the chef. They had a good menu but I was drawn to the extensive list of fresh fish, something the Portuguese know very well. We had a calamari tentacle starter which was devine followed by fresh hake and fresh whole dorado, both superb served with freshly cut chips, not frozen for a change. The service and quality of food were both outstanding and a really nice vibe to the place. Very casual.
One downside, they were still waiting for a license when we were there. No problem if you know in advance and if not, there is a very good liquor store 2 minutes away.
It's fairly new on the scene, but we will certainly lunch there again in the future and wish them all the best.
