Visited Akademie St. with our two young children in March 2011 and had a wonderful time. Well appointed historic houses provide very comfortable and private acommodation in a quiet street just a couple of minutes walk from the cetre of Franschhoek. The owners could not have been more welcoming or helpful and the breakfasts were excellent. All round, hard to beat.

This is a really superb haven. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our time at Akademie, and were thrilled to have selected Gelatenheid which is a gorgeous, private and very spacious suite that was worth every penny. The pool is divine, a perfect temperature and lovely for cooling off in the sun. Breakfast was great, really delicious and filling. Hazel was a true gem, very interesting and informative. We loved the area and all the amazing places to eat and visit. We really fondly remember our time here and would recommend it to anyone as it is amazing. Thank you for a great stay!!

We stayed at 'Gelatenheid' the largest of the guesthouses, a double storey building with a large pool and private garden.
We had visited Namibia and stayed in lovely lodges. To end our journey we stayed at Franschhoek. Katerine and Arthur and their staff were so friendly. The breakfast was generous and our visits to the vineyards was a big and lovely surprise. And Arthur helped us to make the best of our stay.
We hope to go back some day because we loved it!
Thank you all for our superb holiday...

I first stayed at Akademie Street Guest house in 2009 on the recommendation of a friend. I loved everything about it and pledged to return. I recently visited (March 2011) and every single thing was perfect. Unbelievably elegant and stylish yet absolutely comfortable; attentive and simultaneously private; perfectly situated in town but so well designed that it feels it is a world of its own. Plus the lovely owners and team offer the best breakfast out there, a rich library, and a wonderful DVD library. I would not only recommend but encourage any one going to Cape town or the wine country to make a point of staying at Akademie Street. From that exquisite base, visit the many extraordinary restaurants, wine farms, and sites in the area.

We found the hotel exceeded the expectations raised by the excellent website. The rooms were not only charming, but supplied with everything one could think of needing - our host Arthur said the ideas came mostly from guests themselves, and we don't think there could possibly be anything else to add.
The breakfast was truly exceptional and Hazel is a star.
Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and we will certainly recommend the Akademie Street Hotel to anyone wanting to visit Franschhoek.

We enjoyed our stay at the Akademie Street Guesthouse. The owners were super nice and very involved in making you feel welcome. The entire staff was stellar as well. We enjoyed day trips to various vineyards which served up delicious food and great wines...but our favorite part of our stay was the amazing homemade breakfasts! The freshest fruits, home cooked everything, it was so delicious.

Our last day we were very sad to miss out on breakfastndue to an early departure (we had booked an early shark cage diving reservation). In a very hospitable move, they prepared a cold breakfast of fruits, yogurt, homemade mueslix, and honey. Respect! In addition when Arthur (the owner) made us our shark diving reservation he instructed the tour company to charge us a lesser rate as Akademie GH does not take a commision. Sure enough when we got there, we paid much less that the advertised rate! What a great place!
