We stayed in the beautiful Uitsig unit over the Franschoek Literary Festival. We could not fault any aspect of this guest house! From the wonderful warm welcome, to the superb accommodation with all the thoughtful and generous touches and the wonderful five star breakfast, it could not have been better. It is perfectly situated and so ideal for the festival that we have already booked our rooms for next year's festival as any other accommodation is liekly to be disappointing after this experience!

Room Tip: Beautiful views from luxurious Uitsig

We have had the pleasure to stay twice in Oortuiging Cottage, part of the Akademie Street hotel with entrance from the street. Very convenient to have the car parked outside. Fascinating photos in the sitting room of the cottage back in the 1890's when it was used as a recruiting centre by the British administration. The cottage has been up dated since then to a most comfortable house with two ensuite bedrooms, kitchen and stoep with access to the delightful gardens where a winding path leads to the manor house and Hazel's delectable breakfasts.
Arthur and Katherine have created a most precious thing - a home from home, superlative service, one of the best small hotels in the Western Cape setting a standard for the tourist industry.

My wife, 2 teenagers and I spent 2 nights at Akademie in early May. We had a wonderful experience. The property and rooms are charming, and the staff are warm and hospitable. I would highly recommend the property

Unfortunately only able to stay one night, but what a pleasure it was!
Hazel, Arthur and their team were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home from the outset. We stayed in Gelatenheid and I can't recommend this unit highly enough! Akademie St's location is also very convenient and only a very short walk into the heart of Franschhoek. Will definitely be back!!

Well, I am not quite sure where to begin.
Akademie Street is just perfect. From the individual house, to the amazing breakfasts to the highly attentive and personalised service. We were there for 5 nights, but could easily have stayed longer.
From the first e-mail exchange to make our booking, through to the post stay request for feedback, they did not put a foot wrong. Katherine, the owner is a lovely warm and welcoming lady. For Hazel, nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
If you are planning to head to Franschoek - which in our opinion is streets ahead of Stellenbosch- you could not do better than to stay at Akademie Street. We will not share with you all of the additional personal touches that made this such a wonderful experience - as we think it would be much nicer for you to make these discoveries for yourself.

Room Tip: We stayed in Gelatenheid and think this was the best ......

If you want privacy, excellent service, and a nice decorated and confortable room, this is the place to stay in Franschhoek. The staff is extremely polite and helpful. The breakfast is superb. Furthermore, it is also well located: just a short walk top reach all main restaurants and shops. We stayed at the Vreugde Cottage, which has a private veranda and small swimming. It was perfect.

Room Tip: If you want privacy, go to the Vreugde cottage.

Highly enjoyable stay with an amazing unparalleled breakfast. The staff could not have been more helpful. For example we mentioned we might like to cycle at breakfast and bikes were arranged immediately. So thoughtful. If I had to make one minor observation I would say that I found the huge painting of the lady hanging next to the bed in our room (Twyfeling) a bit odd and it was somewhat unsettling to sleep under her gaze!!
