Absolutely loved this place. We booked it for our honeymoon on recommendation from a colleague in the UK. Its quiet looking on the outside but is a really private, magical place on the inside. The most expensive suite/house is just stunning, I would recommend booking it. We didn't and saved quite a bit of money (while still staying in a beautiful room) but looking back it was one of those situations were the extra cost would have equaled the extra pleasure. The breakfast here was huge, varied and amazing. These people really know how to do 6 star in a guesthouse! I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when in Franschoek.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for the best house (most expensive one) its worth it.

I travelled to South Africa to visit my son and he arranged for us to stay at Akademie. I have travelled extensively over the course of my career and lived in several countries. I can't recall having a better guest experience anywhere for any amount of money. It is well located for exploring Franschhoek and we found them very helpful with restaurant recommendations and with booking a driver for the day to take us to several vineyards that we would otherwise never have found. If you travel to Franschhoek-Stay at Akademie. R. Davis

Room Tip: I don't think there is a bad room.

Everything positive you read in the reviews are true. We stayed at Akademie for our honeymoon in June 2012. Akademie is beautifully and tastefully decorated, located perfectly so that you can walk to downtown Franschhoek, and they have literally thought of everything you could need. They recommended a fabulous wine tour (Rochelle Tours, with Almyer as a guide) and made sure we had bookings we needed for meals. The room had a small kitchenette stocked with snacks, drinks and fruit, all included. They had an extensive collection of DVDs to make use of, and wireless internet throughout the rooms. They had a list of the best wineries in the area, and were able to make recommendations based on our interests (seeing beautiful vineyards, trying the best Pinotages). Breakfast was delicious (and also included) - both hot and cold, with fresh fruit and amazing pastries. The rooms were luxurious but homey, with wonderful bathrooms. Most of all, the staff and owners were so kind and accommodating - making sure everything was taken care of and thinking of any issue before we could. They even had directions to dozens of different locations (including the airport, where we were sadly headed) to print off at a moment's notice. We loved our stay there, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to relax and see South Africa's beautiful wine country.

Room Tip: We stayed in Vreugde, which was dettached and hence provided a bit more privacy. More like a room wi...

My wife and I recenly were guests at Twyfeling. I say "guests" because every now and again one moves beyond service, decor, functionality and facilities, and you begin to encounter something really special. We discovered this at Twyfeling where we were made to feel completely at home and pampered beyond all expectation. Good service is a thing of the past - everybody strives for that. What sets places apart is that special quality of personal care and friendship. We found that at Twyfeling and will return ... and retrun ... and return. Ron and Barbara Schiff (Hout Bay)

This does not feel like a guest house or hotel, it's like staying in someones private home and you are treated just like a family member, nothing being too much trouble. The attention to detail is exceptional and I could find no fault. I will certainly return sometime.

After wonderful days in Cape Town we stayed here for 2 nights. Old historic buildings with lovely interior. Walking distance to the main road in Franschhoek with lots of nice restaurants and shops. The service was always great and the breakfast delicious. It is a perfect cozy place to stay and we can highly recommend it to everybody who wants to stay central but quiet in Franschhoek. Thanks to all the team for a lovely stay!
