“An unrivaled experience”
Reviewed 15 February 2009

Our three nights at Akademie Street Guesthouse was, quite simply, outstanding. The guesthouse was warm and comfortable. This isn't a cliché that I use often, but it indeed did feel like home. Breakfasts were equally wonderful, like dining with old friends. The location is beautiful and central to the restaurants on Franschoek. We sampled wines during the day, ate at stellar restaurants in the evening, and settled down at night with a DVD. I could not recommend Akademie Street Guesthouse enough. It alone is worth a trip to South Africa (which is not to diminish the wonders that one finds in that beautiful country).

They'd thought of everything! High quality accommodation, high quality service. Our hosts were there when we needed them and not when we didn't! The free wifi and welcoming fizz in the fridge were the cherries on the cake.

We agree with all the other positive things that have already been said by other reviewers.

We hope to return.

The welcome we received on arriving was wonderful - even from 'Woof' the family dog. Room was huge, with lovely original artwork on the walls, balcony overlooking the mountains, crisp white linen on the extra king size bed. As said by other reviewers, the owners have thought of everything - chocolates, champagne, stocked fridge, lovely south african toiletries. It was just perfect.

Breakfast was delicious - Katherine and Arthur are excellent hosts and made some great recommendations of things see and do during our stay. If you like cars, the nearby motor museum was really interesting. Would love to stay here again.

Great people, fantastic room, idyllic location, breakfasts to die for, atention to detail is second to none. Arthur and Katharine are also a fountain of knowledge in all things Franschhoek. A restaurant? they know the best ones. A winery? they know the owners! Read the other reviews, they say it all. This place is "paradise in heaven". We didn't have long enough to enjoy the guesthouse or Franschhoek. We'll be back!

My wife and I had a number of stays at Akademie in both Vreugde and Uitsig (Uitsig being our favourite). Arthur and Katherine are extremely good hosts and EVERYTHING is catered for up to the smallest detail including luxuries. We travel often and I still need to find any place like Akademie - it is truly the best B&B in South Africa and rates amongst the best in the world. Thank you Arthur and Katherine for sharing this special place with everyone!

We stayed at 2 different properties in this collection and particularly enjoyed Utsig which was ideal for a couple seeking high quality, superb, friendly service in very good accommodation. This does not pretend to be a hotel but a guest house which has thought of every c .nvenience the traveller needs.Attention to detail without being intrusive.Easy walking distance to a wide range of places to eat out.

My husband and I stayed here for two days in December and thought it was an amazing experience. Our room (Uitsig) was great, with all sorts of thoughtful extras, and the breakfast was breathtaking. And with the US dollar gaining strength recently, a very good bargain considering the level of service.
