We stayed in one of the villas with our own garden and pool.
There we everything that we needed available. We were impressed with the mobile phone provided with all the numbers loaded that we needed - which we used to amend our restaurant booking. Arthur was helpful and keen to make sure everything was provided for us though we couldn't work our way through all the complimentary drinks available! The breakfast was excellent especially the cooked tomatoes.

Akademie Street’s website ‘home’ page sums it up very nicely: “Do you want luxury Franschhoek accommodation in a guest house and very small boutique hotel, rather than stay at a sterile, large hotel no matter how luxurious the latter is? Then this luxury … guest house and very small boutique hotel offers five star … accommodation in five unique buildings all situated on the same beautiful property in a quiet area of the village … in the heart of the Cape Winelands.”

You don’t need to have an interest in wine or indeed good food to fall in love with Franschhoek – arguably the food and wine capital of SA. We stayed at Akademie Street for 3 nights towards the end of our 3 week holiday and thought it was a lovely place – we could easily have spent a few more days there. Very attentive staff but with owners Arthur and Katherine ‘hands-on’ hosts you would expect no less. They were always available to offer advice and make restaurant bookings (although the more popular venues in town eg La Petite Ferme need to be booked weeks in advance). This is not the cheapest place you could stay but there are the little extras such as the well stocked mini bar and daily laundry included in the rate. Would we return – definitely yes!

Historic location and the character of the buildings have been maintained, fantastic people , great room. with lots of space for all our luggage. Nice touch with a big fridge in the room Our only small complaint would be the quality of cooked breakfast relative to the cost, otherwise highly recommend the Hotel and its staff, and would be keen to stay again

We were recommended to stay here by friends, we were not dissapointed. The whole delightful complex of individually designed appartments oozes quality and attention to detail. The Hosts and staff are warm and friendly, with plenty of local knowledge which they are keen to share.
This is a place to relax and linger.

Fantastic service and attention to detail throughout the main house and the guest cottages. Breakfast and mini bar included which was a bonus . Breakfast was well thought out with local and organic produce.

As a 6ft 6in person the shower head in the bathroom is a little low to get under but the bathroom itself was well furnished and decorated ten out of ten.

We have just returned for a great trip to the western cape, of which the Akademie Street was the jewel in the crown with regards to service and accommodation. It is our second stay at this property and we were delighted to build our trip around availability.
The location is peaceful and only a short walk to the fine restaurants in town. We stayed in Vreugde which was delightful with its plunge pool and shady veranda. The bed is very comfy and the room and bathroom well appointed. We love the little extras of the mini bar and laundry being included in the rate. Breakfast in the courtyard is great. The selection is good and everything is so fresh. Arthur and Katherine are ever attentive and on hand to offer advice on what to do in the area. The true yardstick of a great hotel is would you return - well we have booked for next year.

We only stayed for one night, but wished it could have been longer. We were late booking, and only the Twyllig guest house was available, and I did worry that this might not be very private as it was attached to the main reception. No need to worry though- 2 separate doors made the room extremely quiet, and it was huge! Best bed I've ever stayed in as well. The owners were charm itself, and the breakfast delicious. Excellent location as well- only 2 mins to the shops and restaurants.
