From the moment we arrived and for almost three days we were treated like royalty. The most hospitable owners and staff cared for our every need. The breakfasts in the romantic gardens, the swimming pools, spacious rooms (with every conceivable conveniences), and the proximity to the wonderful shopping and dining---ALL made this one of the BEST hotel experiiences we have ever had--AND we have been around.

We were only able to stay for one night but having been to Franscchoek before and staying at the more well-known, larger hotels, I was extremely impressed with the location, facilities and service at Akademie Street Hotel. I though the cost was fair and was comparable to some of the larger (and definitely more impersonal) options available. I also appreciated the fact that the costs advertised and quoted were fully inclusive and there were no hidden costs or additional charges at the end of it (the mini-bar was even free!).

We stayed in the Fountain room, which while not as secluded as we'd hoped, had everything else one could expect - spacious room, comfortable king-size bed, great bathroom, private patio/ conservatory and we were most grateful for the decent espresso machine in the room.

The hotel is very central, and just a short walk from the main road. The staff were very attentive and put on a great breakfast. They were also extremely knowledgeable and helpful on where to go and what to do based on what we were looking for and given the short time we had. The owner even prepared a route for us for our drive back in to Cape Town which made for a nice, relaxed trip back.

What a wonderful find - I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather stay in Franschhoek.

This place doesn't feel like a guesthouse, it feels like you've landed your own historic home in the middle of the wonderful town that in Franschhoek. We stayed in the oldest house, dating back to 1860, and you could smell the history in the place. The location is perfect - 2 mins walk to the main street, but set far enough back to feel beautifully peaceful and private. The service (and the breakfasts) are faultness. A marvellous place to stay.

Our last port of call after 3 weeks traveling around S.A,& we were not disappointed.
We stayed in Uitsig which was an excellent quality spacious room with spectacular views on all sides of the mountains. The furnishing & facilities were first rate with every little need provided for including a free mini bar, free laundry service, lovely fresh flowers in the room & all the other services you would expect from a top notch establishment.
All the people were friendly & helpful giving good advice & maps/routes of the local attractions. Being walking distance from Franschoek was an added bonus-an opportunity to walk off the great breakfasts! Thank you Arthur & Kathryn!

Wow what an amazing place to stay- we happened to just drop in on off chance that accommodation was available and we were so happy it was- it was so good we extended our stay to 2 nights on our honeymoon! We had luxury in staying in a suite and then the 2nd night we stayed in the Gelanteid house. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the house and attention to detail. The beautiful vicorian bathtubs and the snacks and free mini bar, not to mention the extensive books & magazines to relax by the private pool and read or on either of the balconies. The beds are huge and breakfast was so tasty & fresh- especially the homemade smoothies. Hazel, Arhur & Katherine are so friendly & helpful. Arthur kindly provided a driving iternity for the rest of our trip down the Garden Route, This place is really worth the money and tops any 5 star hotel. We would highly reccommend it.

We stayed at the Akademie Street for two nights at Easter. Although we had one of the simpler rooms, Twyfelig A (the Pool Room, recently renovated for guests), it was extremely well equipped, from a local cell phone to an espresso maker, as well as a beautiful conservatory-style bathroom with a large shower, full bath, and lots of room. It overlooks the main pool and outdoor breakfast area. Katherine, Arthur, and Hazel were the ultimate hosts, providing a warm welcome, wine tasting tips, good conversation, and a genuine interest in their guests. The breakfast was outstanding - fresh fruit, smoothies, homemade muesli, jams, hot croissants or muffins and a cooked breakfast if desired. Our only regret - we wish we had booked for three nights or longer. We wrote on the feedback form that a reading light would have been a helpful addition to the room and before we returned home, we had an email from Arthur thanking us for the suggestion and letting us know that they'd already put reading lights in both newly finished rooms. It's rare to see such attention to detail and that is one reason why the Akademie Street is such a find!

4 of us stayed in 2 rooms of the Twyfelig house. We all loved everything about it. Lovely people who couldn't do enough for you, wonderful breakfasts and many thoughful touches. The gardens and pools were quiet, restful and full of flowers, yet just 2 minutes walk from the main street, restaurants, bars. Our room had a fabulous bathroom that I could have moved in to. Altogether just what we wanted after Cape Town, and very hard to leave.
