rooms were clean, bed comfortable, asked about dinner shown the lunch card, then shown haute cuisine menu. the food was below average, salmon was limp and tasteless as was the kingklip.
service was satisfactory. breakfast was certainly better than the dinner. paid the bill on check out only to receive a bombardment of emails saying that we hadnt paid for dinner, we were surprised to hear ,this. turned out check out staff failed to charge for the dinner, no apology that this was their fault or oversight. certainly a hotel not up to standard of three cities. disappointed with the stay

I stayed here for a weekend conference. Fortunately I didn't pay for it, otherwise I would have felt seriously short changed.

Lovely setting, but the room could easily have been in a City Lodge. Tiny CRT TV with 9 channels(free to air channels, couple of movie channels and one sport channel) comfortable bed and linen, but utilitarian bathrooms, tired carpets, fairly worn towels, no plug points for chargers, only pay for use wifi. Service was erratic, food was okay. Long life milk in the rooms was curdled (although just within the expiry date.)
One of my colleagues complained that there was poor sound insulation in his room so there was a constant noise of an aircon condenser through the night.
Conference facilities weren't that great either, with only instant coffee available during tea breaks and uninspiring food options. Also not sure if there were bigger conference rooms available, but large pillars in the middle of the room we were using meant interacting with other delegates was difficult.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights over December break in 2013. The room and bathroom were clean. The bed was comfortable, the pool area was nice, and the breakfast served its purpose in the morning. Given that it's part of the larger Three Cities chain it tends to attract tour groups which kind of takes away from the mystique of a Franschoek hotel. The location is about a 7-10 minute car ride from the center of town, certainly not in walking distance (not that they advertise it is), but they do have a pretty efficient system of transporting passengers to the center of town. If internet access is important to you, note that it's limited to the common areas and is a bit slow (wasn't a factor for us since we were looking to escape it all). Overall, recommended if you're looking for a reliable place to stay but certainly not a place to get that "B&B / Private Winery / Family Owned vibe that could be had all around the area. Quick note: The wine region is great. Definitely book a stay in Franschoek and Stellenbosch vs. day-trip from Cape Town.

We stayed at the Villas and overall it was great until the sun set and we went to sleep, there were so many mosquitoes and no mosquito nets or repellent at all - which was quite a disappointment for a 4/5 star establishment. The next day we went to the pharmacy to get some itchy cream for my toddlers and they said that Franschoek has a big mosquito problem so the hotel should be aware of this but when we told them and showed them my 2 years olds face they were completely not fazed by it at all. I would advise anyone that stays there to take their own mosquito repellent with!

Room Tip: The two bedroom villa is great - just take your own mosquito repellent with as there are loads of th...

We stayed at the hotel for our honeymoon. We thought that it would be a great experience at a five star hotel but the bathroom was dirty, when all we wanted to do was take a shower after a long wedding day. When we asked to be moved to another room, all they were prepared to do is give us access to another bathroom, even though the room was empty. They offered us another night stay but we went back and the room that we got given had an annoying buzzing sound and kept on flickering. When we complained, the front desk just said that they can only get someone to look at it in the morning and that we cannot move to another room. So much for making it up to us. Definitely not 5 Stars

We had a wonderful Christmas Holliday - stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and everything was absolutely perfect. All staff was helpful and nice and they tried to do all the best for us.
The garden and pool was nice and the Spa was a very nice experience too. Seeing forward to coming back.

You cannot hope but be overwhelmed by the absolutely perfect setting of this wonderful hotel. The gardens are really beautiful and the mountains ever-present and spectacular.
The room I had was beautifully appointed and had some wonderful touches such as an espresso machine with wonderfully fragrant coffee pods and a welcome plate with a couple of delicious macaroons.
The bathroom? Well that was a bit of a let-down as I would have expected at the very least a separate shower instead of the usual over bath handset.
Great bed and linen with really whisper quiet environs make for a great sleep.
Breakfast was a little sparse? I have experienced a lot more variety put together with a lot more care in lesser star hotels and guest houses. The service in the restaurant was also a little off-putting with staff that seemed anything but happy to see you. Must have had post-Christmas blues. Still, not bad.
