What a lovely place to get lost and relax and forget about the hustle and bustle of the world. Beautiful setting in a lovely village.

We arrived at Le Franschoek about 5pm and left at 6am the following morning plus it was raining so bad we didn't walk around so didn't really get to experience this hotel much.

It markets itself as plush and certainly our room was lovely. The reception area had hessian carpet which had seen better days though. Our room was very spacious with everything that you could want from a room. When our friends and us held our hotel 'oscars' at the end of the holiday this place won best toiletries. They were lovely. Sounds trivial but it is the little things that count.

Because we had to leave so early, we didn't eat breakfast. When they realised this, they were quick to offer us picnic breakfasts which we had and which were lovely.

It didn't matter to us because it was too wet to walk around but if it hadn't been, we would much to have preferred to stay somewhere closer to the heart of Franscheok. Saying that we went to Dieu Donne to eat in the evening (which was fantastic) and they put on a free shuttle bus.

This hotel is set in the most beautiful garden setting on the sloaps of a mountain. Our villa was spacious and so functional with a kitchen and wonderful veranda. Walking the property amongst its beautiful flowers and towering oaks was a real treat. A spectacular setting!

We stayed at le Franschhoek for 12 days over Christmas and New Year.
It was glorious. The staff were vere friendly and professional, the spa sublime, the food was great and the setting was out of this world.
Having read the mixed revews I was quite apprehensive - but I really found this hotel outstanding.

If you are visiting the winelands of S.A. this is the place to stay rather than Cape Town.
Very swish hotel which makes up on style what it lacks in warmth. Set in beautiful countryside/vineyards, it is a large hotel catering for the de-luxe tourist trade/conferences.

Rooms are more than adequate - but why do you have to make a specific request to have the mini-bar unlocked in a first class hotel? Godd toiletries, robes etc as one would expect.

Restaurant serves quality food cooked to order from an open kitchen, in a spacious environment, but one one of our two nights the service could be likened to a Marx Bros. comedy - with two Maitre d's falling over the serving staff preventing effective service and so destroying the ambience which could have been expected. The next night with fewer staff (at the top level) gave much better service. Excellent cellar (but tardy with delivery).

One of the best breakfast buffets I have come across.

We stayed at Le Franschhoek for our first wedding anniversary, and it did not disappoint. The room was beautiful, with a huge balcony overlooking the mountains and the gardens. The staff could not do enough to help, and the little touches like the turn down and the robes made it feel very special. The food in the orchard restaurant was delightful, and the individual greenhouses are a lovely setting for a romantic meal. All in all a lovely hotel, in a stunning location and far better service than you would get at an equivalent hotel in the UK.

we stayed at le Franschhoek as the 2nd hotel of our 18 night trip to South Africa. It is situated high in the Franschhoek valley and is an incredibly beautiful hotel, our room was divine with a 4 poster bed, thatch roof and stunning view. The staff were all very friendly giving us directions for our evening meals - including one to Rust en Vrede (reviewed separately - the best!!) and the breakfasts unbelievable - probably the best poached eggs on salmon/ smoked haddock ever, but also teh range of continental breakfast lovely. Little touches of bed turn downs and weather reports were an added comfort as were the slippers and robes. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone staying in Franshhoek - it was a great base to explore the region.
