I was torn trying to write this review. On one hand, the hotel is great. the rooms are really big and the surroundings are breath taking. However, we had a terrible experience with the service:

1. One of the two mornings we stayed we were waken up at 6am by helicopters that were landing in the property to pick up other guests. The noise didn't stop till well gone 7 - make sure you take ear plugs when you go - you may need them!

2. The swimming pool area is very small for the size of the hotel, so I found myself having to relax on the floor as there were no chairs left! (although some of them were 'taken' by guests that never came back to them)

3. There was a wedding on the day we checked out - we were quite literally asked to go at 1pm although we planned on using the facilities for a bit longer - we weren't told this when we booked, which was very disappointing - again, you may want to check this particularly if you have a late flight in the evening and hope to use the hotel facilities till then.

What a fantastic hotel. The setting is beautiful. The rooms are gorgeous and well docorated with all the usual 5 star bits and pieces. The staff are welcoming and attentive. The restaurants looked superb, although we didn't get the opportunity to eat there, except for breakfast, which was very good. I would go back tomorrow!! Check out their website, as it is vey much as it is... unlike some who have obviously made best friends with professional photographers!!

We were travelling as a family with two young teenage children and the wine lands would certainly not be the kids favourite location. However the hotel was a big hit with everyone.

The location itself is stunning, nesttled at the foot of the mountains. We were there during a very busy week just after the New Year and were upgraded to a house which was really brilliant. Our own balcony on the first flooor overlooking the vinyards and magnificient mountain scenery.

We were invited to lunch when we arrived and had a huge choice from four different chefs plus dining in the gardens surrounded on two sides by glass while mist is pumped through the fruit trees to keep you cool.

We only had dinner one evening and were very pleasently surprised at the extreemly high standard of presentation and quality of each dish - Franschhoek seems to be the gourmet capital of SA so they really do have to compete for there clients. The chef was new and was really pushing out the boat to impress. Breakfast was also very pleasent but no real surprises here (Irsih guys like there fry!)

The pool area was very pleasent but quite busy as there were lots of kids here and Franschhoek as advised is not the most kiddy friendly spot in the world. So the pool really is the best option on a hot afternoon.

Overall - Very happy and would highly recomend and would return

Oh dear me, where to start? I have actually stayed here twice. the first time was with my best friend during the week. We had a plesant stay and I was absolutely wowed by the mountain views. The service was ok, and we had a few little problems (for example the snacks in the minibar were months out of date...) but generally I was so impressed by the setting I brought my husband back there for a weekend break.

That was a complete disaster. I can only assume that it was down to it being a peak time rather than during the week. I had requested and had confirmed by the hotel a specific room. We were put into a different room when we arrived, which is right by the aircon units, so relatively noisy and altogether disappointing. We found throughout the weekend that service in the restaurant was slow, confused and just not right. For example when you ordered an omelette in the morning the cook had forgotten the filling before he’d finished making it. On the Saturday morning the restaurant ran out of plates and bowls. The breakfast tables were only partly laid with salt, pepper and butter missing.

The mini bar wasn’t properly stocked – there were no snacks. When we asked for some snacks to be sent up to the room we were charged R800 for them – not told this in advance.

The spa was brilliant and I was really impressed with Lydia.

It’s a real shame, but due to these problems I don’t think I could consider using Le Franschhoek again, neither would I reccomend it.

I did write to the hotel to say how dissapointed I was and got no response.

we came to stay in this truely amazing hotel while travelling across south africa for two weeks. First impressions were excellent, the room hugh, really clean and warm.Staff were top class and the resturant well worth a visit. The weather was a bit dull so both my husband and i took full advantage of the a1 spa.If only we knew we would have stayed longer.Highly recommended for a second honeymoon. We will definitely be back to this beautiful part of the world

We stayed at Le Franschhoek for two nights in late April during two-week tour of South Africa. We did not know what to expect as we had booked the hotel as part of a package. We really wish we had stayed longer. It is a truly amazing, unbelievably breathtaking hotel. The rooms are huge and decorated with impeccable taste. The night we arrived, our bed had been covered with rose petals and we found a complimentary bottle of wine and snacks in the room. Breakfast on the balcony, in the sunshine, looking at the mountains and the lovely countryside was something special. The hotel has indoor and outdoor lounges to relax, a pool area and the most romantic restaurant in the middle of a vineyard (absolutely THE place to get married if money is no object). Considering its high standard, we tought it was fairly priced as well
