We stayed with friends in March this year - for the 4th or 5th time since our honeymoon there 13 years ago - and yet again La Petite Ferme managed to tick all the boxes.

We stayed in both the lakeside lodges and the vineyard suites and they both offer plenty of value for money. The suites have loads of room, some of the best views in Franschhoek, massive comfortable beds, private plunge pool (great for a sundowner glass of estate wine overlooking the mountains), comfortable sitting area, fireplace necessary when the weather turns cold.

The lodges are two bedroomed and are great for sharing a special event - birthday/anniversary - with family and friends. They are fully set up for self catering, but in South Africa's gastronomic capital we didn't bother.

The food in the restaurant is amazing - less fussy than some of the competition down the road - excellent food made really well. As a staying guest it is also much easier to get a table in the restaurant at short notice, which is often necessary. Service was spot on. The estate wines were well worth drinking and added an extra touch to the experience.

We arrived late but was welcomed by the very friendly Randall who was sitting at the front desk! Quick check in and we drove to the lakeside cottage on the other side of the road. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! WE LOVED IT!

The next morning, the view was even better.

breakfast was yummy and excellent variety with cold and hot choices.

We also signed up for the FREE cellar tour which was very fun and educational (and much better than many other places which charged 30R for their tastings). Such a shame that their DOUBLE GOLD merlot was sold out!

Beautiful experience for our honeymoon, thank you La Petite Ferme! :)

Having heard good things about this place, we decided to book a lunch and were not disappointed. The food was delicious and very good value (at least it was given we were converting the rand into sterling). Service was friendly and attentive, and the views were stunning - ask for a window seat.

My wife and I had the bridal suite for our anniversary weekend. We had decided to start the Saturday with the wine tour and tasting which was both informative and entertaining and had wine!
The next bit is where the 5th star was lost. We had a lunch booking for 2pm and an hour and a half to kill. I asked reception if perhaps we could check in (at 12h35) only to be coldly informed that check in time is 2pm only. We know that... but if the room is ready.. or if you want to enforce a rule... how about doing it more gently? No offer of an alternative. My wife and I took a drive in the rain to kill an hour and then came back to an early lunch. We were also wound up to be looking for faults.
Lunch was fantastic! The standard of service and food - excellent!
As we were now allowed to go into our room, we checked in.
The Bridal suite has a fantastic view of the Franschoek valley a pool right in front of the verandah. The bed was fantastic and a massive dressing room leading to a huge bathroom. It was slightly odd that there is no door between bathroom and bedroom - the bathroom being tiled was very echoey, somewhat amplifying bathroom noises that should stay in the bathroom.
There was a gorgeous little "Happy Anniversary" fruit salad left in the fridge as well as a bottle of celebratory fizz. The breakfast was delicious and we had a fantastic stay... If only they could enforce check in times a little more gently :)

During our tour of Franschhoek, we had the opportunity to visit and eat at this quaint restaurant. The grounds were lovely and the view of the snow capped mountains was just breath taking. Our meal was prepared beautifully and the service nice. We also did not have to wait long to get a table.

We stayed two nights at this lovely hotel. We stayed in two different rooms. The bridal suite in the manor house which we wouldn't stay in again as there is not much privacy and no door to the bathroom which is not acceptable and we stayed in the Deluxe suite which was really nice and we would choose that same room again as it has a separate lounge and a fireplace which we got good use of as it was quite cold. Both rooms had underfloor heating which was nice. Breakfast was delicious and the staff friendly and service very good. The wine there is excellent and the views breathtaking. Will definitely go back.
