a one night stay in mid march was booked with great expectation having read so many excellent reviews - sadly upon point of arrival at reception alarm bells rang that this well known venue may just becoming a bit too comfortable with their status
no denying our villa with with private plunge pool was stunning with great views - but upon requesting some herbal tea and something to accompany like a small biscuit a begruding member of staff produced a poor selection plus a small package of fudge which we were told would be charged to the room! such daft behaviour for a hotel of this standing
little if no help with our desire to book a restaurant in town and much to our suprise the whole hotel is locked and unmanned after 6pm - not leaving a sense of care or security! our only back up to get help with a complete lack of wifi were two or three young africans who hardly spoke english and did not have any idea!
likewise the explained nighttime security gate system was non existant and there was a sense of vunerability with no full time staff on call
breakfast was self service and overseen with little warmth by the serving staff - the buffet was very badly stocked and a total indifferent attitude expressed when this point was raised. the coffee was foul and any time we required any service we had to physically go and get the staff - finally upon check out - aside from the extra charge for the 4 miniscule pieces of fudge the recepionist was actually eating his breakfast and excused himself to wash his hands before dealing with us
what promised so much - actually failed to deliver by miles - not a cheap venue and maybe we were unlucky but it was our first experience of very poor service in the whole of out two week stay
TIP if you fail to get into reubens for dinner - despite being half empty and disinterested staff - do try DutchEast - fantastic service, quality and value!
