Owner description: In Franschhoek, enjoy horse riding through vineyards, forests and over mountains.

Wine Tasting on Horseback from Paradise Stables was a wonderful experience & will be one of my best memories of Franschoek. The horses are very well cared for and very calm in nature. I was a little surprised to see the tack on the horse initially, as it looks very basic (not much in the way of gleaming leather or European style saddlery) but the fact that the horses don't have bits mean that novice riders can't hurt the horses' mouths and the saddles are very comfortable.
The ride is superb and this must be the best way to enjoy the scenery that Franschoek has to offer. The tour stopped at two of the region's best known wineries, where we enjoyed tasting some very good wine. There was no pressure to buy any wine, but the shipping costs & purchase prices for cases of excellent quality wine was very (surprisingly) good value for money. (Look up Rickety Bridge for export/import prices)
If you have no riding experience, the horses are very well schooled and you can enjoy this trip without fear, although you may be a little stiff the next day. If you can ride, there are plenty of opportunities to canter ahead and enjoy a bit more of the local scenery. The horses know the trail and are quiet but they are not 'robots' and you can enjoy this ride as a more experienced rider. Very good value for money.

What a fantastic way to see Franschhoek. I had very little experience riding however the horse I was given was both gentle and responsive. There were more experienced riders in the group and they were able to ride at a faster pace. The wineries were fantastic and the ride through the mountains unforgettable. Highly recommend Paradise Stables.

We had a very nice ride through the lands and woods around Franschhoek: beautiful scenery in autumn colors. Although 3 of us had hardly been on a horseback before we also went in trot and gallop. But the one with the most experience (myself) got the slowest horse, which was a bit of pity. Especially since we had to tell upfront who was experienced and who not. We visited two wine estates where we did wine tastings. We all enjoyed the ride very much and can highly recommend Paradise Stables!

Our group of four had a wonderful 4 hour trail ride on well-mannered Arabian horses and sampled plenty of wine at two vineyards on the way! Our guide was friendly and helpful, the saddles were perfect for less experienced riders (they had sheepskin fabric seat savers!) and the scenery was great.

After the exertions of the day's ride, we braved the cold water of the outdoor pool, which was showing it's age in places, but it was very refreshing all the same.

Our ride and overnight stay in the Labourer's Cottage was a lovely surprise pressie from our friends, and I couldn't think of a better choice if you love horses, wine and the great outdoors!

We went on a 90min trail ride, the group was small (6 with the guide) and basically meandered up and down the hillside, in and out of vineyards, with an occasional stop to take in the scenery. You really don't need to be that experienced as the horses are so well behaved (well mine might have just been lazy!) and also know exactly where they are heading (so don't panic if you're a little slow at the back)!
