Reviewed 13 January 2011

My wife and I revisited Aubege La Dauphine for 4 days in December and returned in January this year. We knew what to expect. We were not disappointed in any way. The owners, Anne and Dan, went out of their way to ensure that our stay was as good as possible, as was their manageress, Ronel.
Ronel took a lot of trouble to arrange a special outing for our son, who had been delayed for 9 days due to UK weather. This really made his holiday. Service was excellent, with happy smiling staff always ready to help. The ambience is an important part of a holiday and this is evident both in Auberge La Dauphine and in Franschhoek itself. Lovely eating places and friendly people.
Good to see that this establishment gets lots of good reviews. Couldn`t agree more, but saddened and surprised to see that DaleneJHB does not seem to agree. I think we were there at the same time as this reviewer, so cannot understand their comments. You cannot please all the people all the time!

Fantastic B & B with great service, location and atmosphere. We loved the place from the minute we arrived and didn't want to leave! Highlights were the amazing surroundings, fantastic breakfasts, Toffee and Apples (the donkeys) and the 3 dogs. Thank you all for making our stay in Franschhoek so special. So glad we stayed in Franschhoek, and especially at Auberge La Dauphine (Mother and daughter 8th and 9th Nov '10)

My partner and I (professional couple in our early thirties) stayed at Auberge La Dauphine for two nights at the end of November 2010 and we had a wonderful time. It's hard to condense into one review what made our stay so perfect but - and in no particular order - I would have to mention the warm welcome we received from all of the staff (particularly the owner Anne who at extremley short notice made restaurant bookings for us (The French Connection and Le Bon Vivant, both which I would highly recommend), arranged for us to have the use of bicycles for a day, made a booking for us to have a picnic at Boschendal vineyard (a must!) and made lots of helpful recommendations of things to do), the beautiful surroundings and perfect location for wine tasting, the comfortable, spacious suite we had, the delicious breakfast, the relaxed ambience which they have created and overall just the way we felt so welcome and at home straight away. It's a very happy, warm place and this is further exemplified in their care for the animals they have rescued (the dogs are particularly lovely!) We couldn't have asked for more and had we not already pre booked accomodation for our last three nights in South Africa we would have tried to stay longer. I have a smile on my face whilst typing this thinking how much we enjoyed our stay and the wonderful memories we'll keep from staying there.

We chose the venue due to it's location, it's apparent comfortable and informal stay but in spite of these things ultimately had a very unpleasant experience primarily due to the owner.

We were placed in a new development at this guesthouse. When considering the booking I was told that it is the same as the existing self catering facility. We were not warned on our arrival about the shortcomings of the venue (the gaps between this venue and the promised standard of existing self catering facility) as one would expect form an ethical and respectful service provider. These were for example: not a cosy atmosphere but toxic paint fumes, plastic wine glasses (in the winelands!!!) and no TV or DSTV. When I asked about the TV the response I got was a patronising: 'I thought you would want the silence'. The next day we were provided with a old, non-functional TV and a side comment with a shrug of the shoulder ' we couldn't get it to work' . When I then pointed out that I will not be paying for a facility I don't have, the owner accused me of 'being difficult 'and 'impossible to please'. The next day a LCD TV was installed...... bolted at a height of 2m and it wasn't tilted... which meant the only way you could actually see what was happening on the screen was if you sit on a chair that you put on the table.... .
With great difficulty we were able to move to the original self catering facility, which improved our stay slightly.
The inconvenience of the lacking facility was uncomfortable but what really made our experience unpleasant was the shocking and condescending attitude of the owner. I cannot in good conscience recommend this venue to fellow travelers.

As soon as these guests arrived it was clear they wanted a "free Christmas". Nothing we did was going to be good enough for them. In respect of the shocking and condescending attitude of the owner - that was pure despair. Please read other reviews to get a more balanced view .....

Absolutely beautiful, luxurious room in the manor house with an amazing view out over the dam to the mountains in the distance. Definitely agree with the suggestion that it has the best views in Franschoek. Lovely facilities, great pools and gazebo overlooking vineyards and dam. Very friendly welcome and great breakfast. We didn’t want to leave so soon!

We were lucky enough to be offered a room in the Owners' Chateau when we booked for Auberge La Dauphine. The beauty of the setting cannot be overstated. The Chateau is situated overlooking the dam, with mountains all around. The Chateau also had its own private swimming pool onto which our room opened. We were a picturesque stroll from the main B&B around the edge of the dam and through the vineyards.

The level of service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble, even when we accidentally arrived three days earlier for our reservation. Ronel helped us with restaurant reservations. This being our second trip to Franschhoek, despite the wide selection of accomodation on offer I would most definitely choose to stay here again.
