“The best place to stay in Franschhoek”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 December 2008

We booked this self catering accommodation at the end of our South African tour and were so glad we found this wonderful house.

There are three properties to choose, but we stayed in Rose Cottage. The house is located on a quiet cul-de-sac which is really peaceful.

Although there were only two of us, the place slept 6 and was huge!

We had a garage for our car and all the comforts of home - kitchen, washing machine / dryer, barbeque, sun terrace/patio and a small pool. The rooms were also fully air conditioned.

Less than five minutes walk from the main street through the town, I can't recommend this place enough. It was excellent value for money.

Franschhoek, what an amazing part of the world!

Kruger House Cottages are located in a compact, beautiful gated community, a couple minutes walk from the quaint village of Franschhoek.

Kruger House (Lemon Tree Cottage), was absolutely the icing on the cake to a super holiday.

We had a delightful stay in first class accommodation. It had every creature comfort imaginable. A home away from home.

We loved it, the kids loved it.

For a worldly traveler's who enjoy simple luxuries, worry free vacations ......it's hard to find fault in the Kruger House accommodations.

Also: Super owners who are at hand 24/7 to assist in every way.

I found this pace on a South African website for booking accommodation online, I was looking for somewhere to stay in Franschhoek at fairly short notice. While there were plenty of hotels available, I was looking for somewhere a little more individual and private.

I booked one the three properties Kruger House provide, and when I arrived in Franschhoek after a long flight, and a tiring drive up from Cape Town airport (traffic!), I was delighted to be met by the owner's three big boxer dogs at the gate of their house just off the main street in Franschhoek. Lynn and Mick gave me a very warm welcome and I followed Mick up to 'Riverside Cottage', tucked in off the side of a quiet road, a short distance from the centre of Franschhoek, behind a secure gate, with lots of technology for the security minded, the house has a deceptively unassuming appearance.

I was thrilled when Mick showed me into the house, a large and well equipped home with EVERY conceivable comfort, two bedrooms on the ground floor, both with ensuite bathrooms, with superb showers, proper showers, with big showerheads! Every one of the three bathrooms was lavishly stocked with toiletries, all with an abundance of big towels, all tastefully coordinated.

My bed was in the master bedroom upstairs, another beautifully appointed bedroom with superb views out over a fantastically landscaped garden and out to the imposing mountains. It was easy to spend ages just absorbing the atmosphere of this fantastic house and its location.

The kitchen in the house was large, well stocked and modern, with every possible extra. I had already been out and bought some basics, like salt, pepper, jam, milk, ketchup etc. I need not have, the kitchen had everything needed to create a marvellous meal. You will truly want for nothing if you go here.

I am a particularly picky person when it comes to hygiene and cleanliness, I couldn't fault the the house. Every morning, a maid visits and leaves the house like a shiny pin.

Walking trhough the large lounge and dining room (with a table big enough for 8) and a small TV room (with a big plasma TV, DVD and DSTV!) you come to a real treat, the pool. Placed in an area that catches the sun for most of the day, yet privately positioned and not overlooked. There is also a gas braai (BBQ) on which I cooked my dinner both nights I was staying.

Lynn and Mick are very proud of their son, (who is pictured in the kitchen), he is the Head Chef at 'Chamonix' which is a restaurant attached to a winery of the same name. If you have the time I would strongly recommend a visit for lunch or dinner, the setting (on a hillside, shaded by trees, with stunning views over the valley), the food, the service is all marvellous!

This is the perfect place for anyone wishing to visit the paradise that is Franshhoek, who wants privacy, seclusion with every modern convenience (they even provided sunblock in the kitchen).

I can't recommend this place highly enough, it is one of the few places I have ever been that I have left relaxed and smiling, unable to find fault in any way.
