“Wonderful hospitality fabulous experience”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

We recently stayed at "Lavender Farm " Our experience was delightful. The rooms were bright airy .Spotlessly clean. The bed, linen, pillows & towels were superb .....
The staff were friendly, polite & extremely helpful.
Breakfast was first class with a wide range of fruit, cereals, eggs and juices
If only we had more time to stay longer.
We will definitely return and stay afew days next time as our time spent there was fabulous

The Best
Debbie J

Room Tip: Definitely go back again as soon as the occasion arises

We stayed two nights in the honeymoon suite which was comfortable, spacious and overlooked the lavender field. It wasn't clear as to what made this ahoneymoon suite as there did not appear to be any special touches. The drive into Franschhoek is short but not lit so wouldn't recommend walking at night. The breakfast area is cramped and and does not provide a relaxing start to the day - we could not eat outside due to the strong wind. Options were limited but the team made superb omelettes.

Room Tip: Choose rooms at the front that overlook the lavender field- rooms to the back of the property look s...

Responses to my Lavender Farm are always appreciated -especially if constructive ! With regard to our breakfast dining area I must agree with you , it is slightly cramped . In June , of this year we will be improving on décor and space in this area .Lavender Farm has become so popular that it was extremely difficult to find space in the calendar year to do such renovations .June was the first time possible .With regard to our beautifully appointed honey moon suites , these suites are larger than the other suites (in excess of 54 sq m) they have a better view of the romantic lavender fields from their own private garden terraces , a cosy fireplace , a larger 47inch TV (that can be viewed whilst lying in bed ), a extended length king size bed , a bath and a shower in bathroom and a more spacious loungette area to relax in

We had a great stay at Lavender farm. The room was spacious and overlooked the lavender field. It had everything we needed, lots of space and a very nice shower. The bed was great, it was difficult getting up from it in the morning!

We also really enjoyed the breakfast and friendliness of the staff. We only were able to stay for one night, but we hope to be back for a longer stay.

Room Tip: The larger rooms overlook the lavender fields and have more privacy

The dinner ladies who are around are lovely, shame about the manager though, awkward and argumentative. Dont expect anything in the mini fridge. Manager believes you should drink the water out of the tap and will talk you to death about it. After waiting 4 hours for a bottle of wine we decided to go and buy our own and put into our empty mini fridge. More like self catering apartment than guesthouse. My suggestion would be to find a manager who loves this kind of a job and has a personality and has attention to detail. Its a lot about the big things AND the smaller things. There IS a lot to be said about having a lovely setting but no service and vice versa. Won't come back.

As a woman owner of the Lavender Farm Guesthouse I cannot agree with you more when you say detail to the ' small things ' is as important , if not more important than to the ' bigger things' - and it is this policy that is adapted whole heartily and naturally by all at my Lavender Farm .We have a reputation with respect to our friendly , helping, and polite management and housekeeping staff. I have always been complimented highly by everyone that visits my guesthouse (as seen on past Tripadvisor reports) for my management and staff`s good attitudes.
It saddens me that you and Don ,my manager clashed as he is an absolute gem and with over and excess of 15000 guests a compliant like this has never been lodged before .

Our selection of wine is available from reception and not delivered to the suites .Sorry if this was not explained to you .
We are in the process of stocking our bar fridges

We stayed at the Lavender Farm Guest House for two nights in January 2014. It is a really tranquil location in the fantastic Franschhoek valley. Large fully air conditioned rooms which were made every day to our satisfaction. Nice spacey shower. The beds are a bit shorter than ordinary, but even at 1.90 it didn't cause me any problems. I read you can request longer beds when reserving. The gardens are lovely and it literally smells lavender everywhere. There is a nice little pool area where we enjoyed soaking up a few hours of sun after enjoying fantastic lunches and various wine tastings. Pool could need some more cleaning. There is a nice outside patio where you can enjoy breakfast on nice days. We didn't find the inside breakfast area cozy at all, so stay outdoors if you can. Also, the breakfast was not up to par. Granted, it's a small place and not very pricey, but only one selection of muesli (although very tasty!) and fruit, one type of toast with three factory produced jars of jam and a selection of three hot dishes is not really enough in our opinion. Produce your own jam, provide freshly pressed juice and bake your own bread and you're home free. But still, this is the only thing we have to pick on at this otherwise great and friendly place. We'll definitely come back on our next visit to Franschhoek.

We stayed recently in one of the larger rooms (Honeymoon suite?)

Upon arrival at 5.30pm, we were disappointed to find the place manned only by a security guard, with no-one to facilitate check-in, explain about the local dining options or generally offer service.
On top of this, there was no info package in the room, nor any local brochures to hand, which we've found everywhere else in SA.

Our room was large and reasonably clean, but smelled of damp, which the owners have tried to mask with the overpowering scent of artificial lavender air-freshener, no better.

The ice-bucket was full of rubbish from a previous guest's stay, and in any case there was nowhere to find ice to put in it.

The minibar fridge was empty, and didn't work.

Breakfast was a disappointing selection in a cramped room, and the receptionist was curt and unfriendly upon our check-out.

We enjoyed our stay in Franschhoek but this guesthouse didn't enhance it. Compared to the warm welcomes and delicious breakfasts we've enjoyed in Johannesburg and across the Garden Route, this was disappointing and we felt this was a corporate experience focused on our spending money rather than enjoying ourselves.

Whilst we did book at short notice and therefore were given a unit due for refurbishment it was noted that the hygiene in the Green Room, particulary the shower, was less than satisfacoctory. Breakfast meagre at best.
