We loved our stay. The friendly service from our hostess made our holiday one of our most memorable stays in the Cape. The tranquil garden and beautiful views of Hout Bay was a perfect setting to relax after a fun filled day full of activities in and around this beautiful city. Close to everything "Cape town" and far away not to be part of the city buzz.

We had a great week there with a child. We got a friendly welcome upon arrival, and we couldn't believe our eyes as the view over Hout Bay from the terrace of our room was breathtaking! This was confirmed the next morning as we understood that we would have the same view for breakfast, from the restaurant. And the breakfast itself was excellent and enough to feed us for a day. The room was comfy and it was a very good bargain for the price we paid. All in all it was by far the best accommodation we got in South Africa during our 2 weeks there, and it's definitely an accommodation to consider to explore Cape Town and the surroundings (including the Cape of Good Hope, Simon's Town and others). I should also conclude by the fact that all in all service was excellent (thanks Anna and Iwanka!) and all our requests were attended to with no delay.

Although we received a warm welcome upon arrival and a fantastic breakfast in the morning, we once again realised that few guesthouse owners sleep in their own rooms, especially during the hot and cold seasons.

Upon our arrival we were met by an unfortunate plumbing job which resulted in lack of water, and maintenance work continuing till almost midnight. We were offered alternative accommodation upon arrival, but only if we had a problem with the noise of the workers which was due to cease at 16:30. We opted to stay since we were touring all day anyway. We did advise the guesthouse to ensure that the water was working upon our return, but this did not happen. The owner was very sympathetic and considerate, but the effects remain.

In addition, we feel the following aspects require attention to make it a better stay at the Dreamhouse:
1. Parking is horrendous. The steep and narrow one-way driveway and limited parking is challenging to say the least, especailly when having to reverse and pull away at such a steep gradient when the surface is wet. This forces one to park in the street, which is monitored by a security guard.
2. WIFI hardly works. It keeps cutting out and when available offers almost one bar of signal strength.
3. The TV is useless. No satelite TV and the local channels are all snowy. So no access to local or international news and weather.
4. Although it is winter, there are still summer cotton sheets on the bed. The electric blanket helps, but the pillows are still freezing!
5. The room is freezing! There is a small asbestos heater, but far too inadeqate. There are also no warm blankets except for a sub-standard single duvet (with no cover).
6. There is only "plastic" coffee in the room. No filter coffee / plunger.
7. There is no vanity area for women (table with mirror to do make-up and hair)
8. The towels are thin and rough.
We still think it's time that guesthouse owners slept in their own rooms.

Room Tip: Ask the guesthouse owner if they have slept in their own rooms - summer and winter - and if they wer...

Nice and clean room; Very friendly people; An amazing breakfast;...
A good location to explore Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula. (Don't forget Hout Bay itself with the trendy market on fridayevening!)
Truly a dreamhouse!

We decided to visit Cape Town at the last minute. We looked at a few places on booking.com and having gone to view some of them, the pictures and places did not match up. In most cases it was dissapointing, Dreamhouse guesthouse however DID NOT DISSAPOINT!!!

We went to the Dreamhouse and was welcomed by the owner Ivanka, which was very warm an friendly. She gave us an option of two rooms that were available, we decided on the Red Suite. The room was spacious with beautiful views and a hammock on the balcony where you can relax and enjoy the views. Since it was winter there was a fire going in the living area, with a comfy couch and lots of books to read should you choose to relax there. Breakfast was such a treat. The tables were beautifully set and decorated and there were more than enough to eat, starting with yoghurt and a fresh fruit salad, a selection of cold meats and cheeses and a bread basket of various breads including banana bread (yum). After all of that we were still given the option of a warm breakfast freshly cooked for us.

The garden is beautiful featuring a koi pond, a little aviary and many private little corners where you can relax and just admire all the views and beauty that surrounds you. The location is great, as it's only 20mins away from Cape Town central and a few minutes from Houtbay harbor. We could sadly only stay one night, but will defenitley be returning for a longer stay.

Room Tip: The red suite was really great. Spacious, beautiful views and your own balcony.

Wow what a fantastic guest house.
On arrival we were greeted by the owner Ivanka who was elegant ,professional and charming.
She introduced us to Anna her manager who greeted us with a smile and a very warm welcome.
She had a good sense of humour and instantly made us feel relaxed and at home .
We were shown to our car parking area which was right outside our room and ample for our large car. We were kindly offered complimentary drinks on arrival and given all the information required for our stay for exampl free wi-fi codes and information on local restaurants.
Our room was large and comfortable , with all the modern facilities required during our stay. and best of all , the most stunning views from our bed and balcony
Our breakfast on the 3 mornings of our stay was outstanding. we have stayed in many fine 5 star world class hotels and I would honestly stay this breakfast is amoungst the best and freshest I have ever had. I was offered cooked breakfast to order I selected 2 x fried eggs and 3 slices of bacon. The eggs were cooked to the highest standard as one would expect from an experienced chef , the egg was crispy on the bottom and soft on the top and the bacon was crispy , just how I would expect in a top class facility .
What a fantastic stay, thank you so much Ivanka and Anna , we will be back in the near future.

A few problems plague this otherwise lovely guesthouse.
1. Breakfast was a disaster. Eggs and bacon were burnt. A R19.95 breakfast from Spur is 100 times better. Only had breakfast the first morning (out of 4) we were there. On the other mornings we PAID for breakfast at restaurants.
2. Off street parking is a massive problem which was not indicated to me beforehand (if I had known I would have never opted to stay at Dreamhouse as I insist on secure parking for my vehicle). Parking inside the premises is limited and yet the owners take up most of the parking space forcing guests to park on the street. If you do decide to squeeze into the very congested parking, you will have serious problems reversing out as their is a very steep uphill driveway, and you may be woken up to move your car out of the way to allow other guests to leave.
3. On Saturday night (at about 18:00) we wanted to ask for a plaster for my wife, and NOBODY was available. I went into the main house and NOBODY was around. Not a soul.
Other than the problems mentioned above it was a nice place to stay....but I would NEVER go back! There are just too many other better guesthouses which are cheaper and offer more. I foolishly thought that paying more would at the very least mean the basics (breakfast and parking) would be done right. Lesson learnt.
Obviously I didn't make our problems (other than the parking) known to the owners/managers when I was there, as my wife did not want a confrontation or hard feelings during our stay. We were on holiday and simply wanted to relax.
