Description: Between 1835 and 1849 the Kronendal Farm was owned by Sir William Josias Cloete. Legend has it that the homestead is haunted by his daughter Elsa Cloete who died of a broken heart after being forbidden to marry her soldier lover. Kitima still sets and serves a table for Elsa with samples from the menu to appease Elsa's spirit. Welcome to Kitima restaurant where oriental elegance and hospitality meet the unpretentious grace and charm of Africa. Our authentic Thai and Asian Fusion cuisine, prepared by our Thai chefs will carry you to a world of exotic spices, perfumes and all that's precious and exotic. Various dining option are available from our private lover's room seating 2-6 persons, our VIP room seating up to 12 persons, our Temple and Bangkok rooms as well as the Raya lounge for cocktails, drinks, snacks or even dinner to share. Kitima exudes all the splendour of a traditional Cape Dutch homestead with yellowwood ceilings, wooden floors combined with modern Asian artefacts and cuisine. Our cocktail list is extensive and features a number of award winners that are both stunning in taste and appeal. The restaurant has the addition of the garden and the Raya Terrace which are unique covered areas that are available, however these are weather permitting. We invite you to have a taste of true Thai cuisine in a traditional and modernised South African homestead.

“Authentic thai food”

Fantastic place with authentic thai food. I had the green chicken curry which was divine and Dim Sum to start with, the service was great and it was good value for money.

“What I have always asked for!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

I love Asian food, especially Thai! And I have always wanted a Lamb Thai curry but have never come across it. Kitima however does have a lamb Thai curry and it is everything I dreamed of. We were a medium sized group so we all tried a little of eachothers meals and I must say that it was exceptional. The food was great, service was more than you could ask for.

The staff were awesome, a very friendly environment that is smart yet laid back. I also heard that they close down at the end of July to go to thailand with the entire staff for a month! I believe a great working environment adds to the wonder of this place and makes it that much better than others! this is a must do when in Cape Town

“Outstanding experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

Great atmosphere, fantastic food and top notch service. Whether you visit the every popular sunday brunch (you are advised to book well ahead!) or you book the big round table affectionately known as the book club special or drop in for a their addictive chilli martini or three, I don't think it's possible to leave Kitima disappointed.

“"KITIMA"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

This is my favourite restaurant for special occasions in Hout bay and it certainly deserves the medal for top Thai restaurant in the country! Numerous visits over a period of 5 years has not dimmed my expectation of superb and friendly service, delicious meals with varied and interesting choices, always well presented. The entrance hall has a dining table beautifully set for a meal for two persons. This is the resident ghost and her lover who were never allowed to marry. He was a young British soldier and she an Afrikaner. Sadly he committed suicide and she died from a broken heart. Prices too are very reasonable for the quality given.
