“Location better than food.”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

Could not be better located with view of Ocean and mountains, but other than no different to a thousand other fish and chip places. Depends on when you arrive as to how fresh it may be., Our food was not of great quality and did not belong to a freshly cooked batch. Could have eaten much better at the local market

“Not for me!”
Reviewed 5 March 2014 via mobile

Some love it, but I think there are better places around. One in particular in Simonstown. Having stated my preference for deep fried calamari in another local review, I had high hopes at Fish on the Rocks when our family of six went last week. It was busy, school kids, locals and tourists at lunchtime. Service is quite quick. I failed to notice that the 'special' was Kingclip, which would have been good, as I don't really like hake. So I chose deep fried battered calamari and chips. The rings of fish were all in clumps, and so greasy that the batter had mostly fallen off, and the chips were all floppy and pale. There is one good table outside, at the back, with a terrific view of Chapmans Peak Drive. Otherwise it's mostly car park.

“Good old fish and chips !”

Very very busy with locals and tourists but were served relatively quickly with excellent hake and chips at such a reasonable price. Cannot beat "good old fish and chips" !!

“Cheap cheerful and tasty ”
Reviewed 10 January 2014 via mobile

A very popular venue with locals and international visitors alike . The menu revolves around fish as you would expect . We had the hake and chips which was nice and tasty and chips that where ok . Great views looking over towards Chapmans peak especially around sun down and on Friday there is a large craft market opposite so watch out for parking issues although there is reserved parking for Fish on Rocks clients .

“Great Fish & Chips and Calamari”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

We love Fish on the Rocks. We make a visit to the food market in Hout Bay but will always end up having our lunch at Fish on the Rocks. They are always very busy but this is good because you won't get stale food. It is a very basic setup like a take-away but with bench seating outside. No waiters to serve you -find your own seat or take your food and sit on the rocks and watch the ocean. Real value for money and this is not at all a greasy fish & chip take-away. Portion sizes are generous and the hake is always fresh and flaky - melt in your mouth stuff. Chips are not oily. No fancy plates - just good old fish & chips in paper bag - the only way to enjoy it. This is a good general outing place but not for any fancy celebrations. I am almost afraid to give it a rave review in case more people go there and that means that we have to wait in a longer queue.
