Owner description: Socially responsible tourist destination where visitors are introduced to the team that makes functional art out of recycled tea bags that are sent to us from far (all over the world) and near!! The tour is free, tea is available (new tea bags, we promise.)and we have a shop on site. Our heart warming story will make your day.

On the blue hop on hop off bus take the opportunity to hop off and do the little walking township tour-it's more talk than walk and you see very little -but-at the same stop there is the chance to visit the Original t bag co.its such a wonderfully inspiring happy project -I was so glad I had the chance to see it --and the cup of tea was very welcome too!!!

Ever thought about the tea bag that you put on your compost heap or throw into recycling. No, nor had we! What a marvellous idea. This lady has given much employment to many needy people, from that unthought of little tea bag. Every bit of this tea bag is reused. The locals are painting their designs on the tea bags which in turn are made into cards, trays, tiles and much more. Even the tea boxes are not forgotten, with the tea leaves going into the making of recycled paper. Going on the little tour you are offered, is extremely interesting, also meeting the workers and creator. You are offered to watch a film about this innovation, whilst offered a tea or coffee. You cannot help but be impressed. If you are not happy to drive to Hout Bay, then get the Red Bus Tour, this drops you about 200 yards away from this hive of activity.

What an amazing find. On the blue hop on hop off bus (also do the township walk well worth it) you find the original T-Bag designs. You are shown a video of where it began ans one of the workers show you around. It's all about giving people a chance. Workers from the Imizamo Yethu Township work in the factory and shop using t bags to design tiles, bags, coasters all sort of things. They don't only use the t bag, but the tea leaves are used either for a bag handle of to make homemade paper. The boxes of t bags are used for jewellery. They are in desperate need for t bag boxes so bring some along. This is must when visiting Hout Bay and Cape Town.

On the blue line of the Hop On/Hop Off bus, there's a stop noted "T-bag" arts and crafts. What is this, I thought? As quirky as it sounds, this community of artists/designers takes USED tea bags and makes them into really interesting objects that are perfect souvenirs for a trip to South Africa. It's really an inspiring story of a UK group looking at the intense poverty in the area and say, "we must help in some way." That way turned out to be teabags. From an acorn a mighty oak grew--which is what you might say once you've visited this place. There are art pieces, jewelry, bags, notecards (appropriately, one uses the famous Eleanor Roosevelt quote "women are a lot like teabags; when they get in hot water, they only get stronger"). Talk about Girl Power. I was very skeptical about this venture, but I came away with souvenirs that are so appropriate for my friends back home--and helped others in the bargain. Big thumbs up for this venture. Take home an "old bag from South Africa."

A must visit. This is such a lovely story. The lady who started it and who still heads up the charity is charming and extremely interesting. They sell some lovely gifts and its so central for a visit.
