We stopped on the hop on, hop off bus at Imizamo Yethu. We had thought about whether we should or not, but our waiter at the guest house, who lived in a township himself, said it would be a good thing to do. We were met at the bus by Africa, one of the guides. He was passionate, articulate and knowledgeable. We bought some locally made jewellery and left some money for Africa to buy the children some biscuits. It didn't seem enough. All in all I am glad we went, but still a bit uncomfortable that a township is a tourist attraction.

We did this from the Hop on/off bus. Low profile tour, just what we wanted. Did not feel awkward. Enjoyed chance to talk with informative intelligent guide.

This was a must visit for me. People living in all sorts of conditions. They are currently building concrete bungalows instead of the slums. You get to meet lots of the township people who are extremely talented making different things that you can buy. Please take this walking tour it very insightful.

The best experience so far. This was a very humbling tour. We are an Irish couple on honeymoon and the locals loved the Irish for all the hard work of Niall Mellon and the homes they have built. It really was special to be allowed into these homes to really see how they live. The church was lovely to see and we arrived as they were having a Monday Club. It was nice to see local shops providing for those with nothing.

I would definitely reccomend this tour.

Tour around the settlement, traditional dwellings with tin roofs and the more recent brick buildings. It is hard to imagine living in such a confined space and amazing how the people use every inch of space. The people have little yet are so happy, worth a visit.
