“Wonderful Hosts”
Reviewed 26 February 2013

Sue and Martin are wonderful hosts and look after their guests extremely well. We stayed for our first eight nights, toured for eight nights, and returnrf for our last two nights. Sue and Martin can arrange airport transfers and can put you in touch with a car hire company who drop off and pick up at the property. The bedrooms are large and airy and the superking bed was extremely comfortable. There is a kitchenette with a fridge (milk and bottle of wine), microwave, sink and crockery so if you get tired of eating out pop down to Woolworths (food hall equivalent to M & S) and get some goodies to enjoy with a bottle of wine sat on the decking by your room. Breakfast is brought to your table on the decking. The fruit platter was beautifully presented and the bread and Danish pastry so fresh we opted out of the cooked breakfast on offer.

IAfter a hot day it was lovely to take a dip in the pool (towels provided) and if you are daring you could take a bath in the garden under the stars!

The property is around a 10 minute walk down hill to the main street with a good choice of restaurants. It is okay to walk down in daylight but as there are no street lights it is best to get a taxi back in the evening.

Take the hop on/hop off tour bus that stops at Hout Bay to see the sights of Cape Town. Drop of at the botanical gardens and have lunch at the cafe there. Take the included tour to one of the Constantia wineries and enjoy some wine tasting. We had a two day ticket and caught the 10 a.m. bus giving you plenty of time for sightseeing. This was a really good introduction to the area.

This was our first trip to South Africa (hopefully not our last) and we couldn't have found a better place to stay for our introduction to the country. Thanks Sue and Martin for making us feel so welcome.

Room Tip: You won't be disappoined with any of them.

Stayed here for 7 nights in December and have already booked to go back next year. Fantastic rooms, superb hosts and a location that was the perfect balance between relaxation and action. Would have no concern in recommending to my friends and family!

Room Tip: all a great but ask for the 'sun downers' view (see photo from room!)

A 5 night stay which was our second visit, and we've already booked for a longer stay next year.
Martin and Sue provide a service which is really difficult to match. The rooms are spotless and superbly decorated. There is a mini kitchen, if you need it. A beautifully presented (and very large) breakfast is served to you on your balcony, which either overlooks the bay or the beautiful garden. Nothing is too much trouble. The first time we went my wife was not very well. Sue was really caring. It's a great base for touring the Cape Town area. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending it. .

We stayed here for 8 nights in November and absolutely loved it. We loved Hout Bay and it was a brilliant base for us to get out and about and see Cape Town and the surrounding areas. The house is great. Pool and garden were stunning and I was a big fan of the hammock.

Our room was fantastic - we stayed in the Bay View room. It was immaculate, the bed was super-comfortable and we loved the terrace. Martin and Sue were great hosts and gave us lots of good advice on the local area and recommended some great restaurants. Breakfast was yet another highlight.

We'll definitely be going back to Cape Town and will definitely stay here again. I would recommend without hesitation.

We rounded off our trip to South Africa with a 4 night stay at the Hout bat Hideaway. What a good choice my wife made when trawling the internet, she has her points!
Martin and Sue Collins are the hosts and a more welcoming and helpful couple would be hard to find.
The accommodation was superb, comfortable and spotlessly clean. You even have a small kitchenette in each room with sink, fridge, microwave and all the necessary accoutrements for making tea and coffee....
The house is located just 5-10 mins walk from the main entertainment area of Hout Bay and is very central for visiting all areas of the Cape. Base halfway up the hillside affords it an excellent view of the bay and those magnificent sunsets....
Breakfast is normally served to your room or private veranda at a time of your choice and this permits you to dress (or not dress) for your first meal of the day!
We had a wonderful stay and Martin & Sue make it very difficult for you not to want to return to their little haven on the hill... forgot to mention the swimming pool and the outside bath - if your game. Highly recommend a stay here as Cape Town and other areas, including the airport are only 20-30 mins away. Can't wait to return.....5 stars from us.
David & Lucy

Room Tip: All of the rooms are good but the one over the front entrance was my choice....

Just back from a glorious 9-night stay in Sue and Martin's gorgeous B&B. Everything about our stay was wonderful, from the stunning views from the verandah, the beautiful garden (complete with outdoor bath!), amazing breakfasts served every morning on the verandah outside our room, the spacious and tastefully-decorated room itself... what more can I say?
The best part of it though was Sue and Martin, who couldn't have made us feel more welcome and were always on hand with advice and suggestions on where to go and what to do.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Hout Bay Hideaway and heartily recommend it to anyone and everyone. You won't be disappointed.

We spent four glorious nights at the Hideaway and couldn't fault it. Martin and Sue made us feel so special and our comfort was their goal. Every day began with a cheery Martin arriving with a sumptuous breakfast on our verandah and ended with a great night's sleep in an extremely comfortable bed. Hout Bay is charming with a good variety of restaurants - all in all a wonderful four days. We will have no hestiation in recommending the Hout Bay Hideaway to our friends.
