“Best Place to Stay in Cape Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2010

I spent a wonderful week at the Tarragon with my wife and 3yr old son. We stayed in the Angelica Cottage and found the accommodations to be very roomy with all our needed amenities and I felt safe and secure. The staff is an excellent feature as they are very friendly - their grounds person was a favorite of my son who couldn't wait to help him feed the fish in the pond every morning. The proprietors Mark and Julia were also very helpful with providing valuable local knowledge that assisted our touring. I also found the Tarragon's location to be ideal for visiting Cape Town - as Hout Bay is an easy scenic drive either to the city sites (Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Gardens) or to the southern sites (Cape of Good Hope, Boulder's Penguins). In all, the Tarragon was the perfect compliment to the wonderful locale.

We stayed at The Tarragon in The Angelica apartment for 4 nights. The apartment was beautiful...wonderful furnishings, lots of room, stunning views and fully equipped. We originally planned to eat out most evenings but ended up staying at home to relax and enjoy the views...it really is a wonderful place. The grounds are absolutely lovely and very well maintained, with a good balance of private space and communial areas. Our kids loved the gardens and pool, but especailly the kids play area which is very cleverly hidden away and makes it magical for kids to find... they nick-named it "the secret playground for good kids!"
Mark was a fantastic host and gave us several great tips about things to do and see all of which were spot on! It really made our trip very special as we would never have found many of these things without advice, (local vineyards which serve fantastic lunches/wine, kid friendly places to stop at on the beach for coffee/drinks, boat trips etc).
All of the staff were very friendly and very attentive...we felt very well looked after. The apartment was serviced daily when we were out and the standard was excellent.
When we visit Cape Town again we would not hesitate to stay here again......indeed, I think that we would not go unless we could stay again at The Tarragon!

We stayed at the Tarragon in the beginning of September 2010. Having 2 young kids we are usually very picky about the accommodation. What can I say? Our expectations were exceeded by far although we were during the low season. We absolutely loved the attention to details and those little things that make you feel truly welcome and at home. The kitchen was very well stocked, the rooms were very tastefully decorated and had everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The grounds are lovely (kids were bewildered by the croc in the pond:). The location is very good for exploring most of the sites (Cape Town, Cape Point, Stellenbosh). The service was excellent. We got some good advice from Marc about the restaurants and activites. All in all, we really fell like coming home after the hard day of sightseeing:) Would deffinitely recommend!

If you are travelling with family or friends, this is the perfect place to stay. Very private and spacious. Well appointed to make cooking and relaxing easy. Great location for exploring the wine country, Cape Point, and Cape Town. Mark is very good with local tips of activites and places to eat.

The Tarragon is wonderful!! Our cottage was luxurious, really comfortable, well equipped with a superb shower and spotlessly clean throughout! Mark and Julia are excellent hosts and made us feel really welcome and gave us loads of tips and advice of places and restaurants to visit which made our trip even more enjoyable.
We will definitely be returning and telling all our friends and family about this gem.

My family and I felt incredibly fortunate to stay at The Tarragon and, having travelled around the country for 2 weeks previously with a 3 and 5 year old, were able to relax thoroughly. This was in no doubt due to the amazing setting, beautiful surroundings and fantastic apartment. Mark was brilliant and his staff, who you could see loved their jobs, were also a joy. There is nothing to complain about regarding The Tarragon. I could only give it the highest of praises and would recommend it to all. We will return.

I never remember to review places here, but I promised Mark and Julia that we would. My girlfriend, a friend of mine and I spent four nights here over World Cup. I am usually traveling internationally for work and stay at mostly five star locations (Mandarin, RC, etc.). That being said, I do enjoy B&Bs and now, Guest Houses, for their "home-type" comfort, but I am fairly picky. The Tarragon's location, amenities and beauty set the bar higher than is probably fair to other places. The rooms are excellent, the decor is dead-on and the creature comforts are all there. Honestly, we completely regretted leaving, and are now trying to figure out when to come back for a longer stay and bring more friends. I highly recommend this place.
