“Far from four star luxury!”
Reviewed 2 January 2013

We had the misfortune of staying in this establishment in a self catering unit in December 2012. It advertises itself as a four star luxury guesthouse but if you stay in the self catering units nothing can be further from the truth. It can get very hot in the summer months in this area and the unit is stiflingly hot with no air conditioning and windows on one side only so there is no way to create a cool draught through the unit. When I expressed my dissappointment to the owner she became unbelievably rude and aggressive and saw no reason for any unhappiness. In fact she suggested that it is all my own fault for booking the cheaper self catering unit and shamelessly suggested I pay double the price for a more luxurious unit and the facilities I thought I would have access to anyway. She asked what else I expected from booking the cheaper self catering units? In an amazing gesture of goodwill we received a grudging written offer a day and a half later to use the guest house pool. So, to spare anyone else from the misfortune and so we are all clear, this is what you will get for your "cheaper" rate:

- An owner with no idea how to handle an unhappy guest courteously
-A unit that has absolutely nothing to do with the guesthouse. It is built in the back on a separate property and you will have no access to any of the facilities of the guesthouse, no pool, no beauty salon, no garden, no terrace, no outside seating area
-A view of bare brick walls and the back of the guesthouse. You will be looked down onto by guests in the guesthouse, so you will have no privacy
-the unit is not part of the guesthouse and opens directly onto the street. To increase security, they have added security gates on the door and windows, making it feel like a jail
-A main bedroom with a small double bed covered with a cheap foam mattress and an extra bunkbed in the lounge/dining area with broken slats and cheap foam mattresses
-Tatty, scuffed and poorly maintained fittings - bathroom tap came off in my hand, cracked tiles and old cupboards
-no safety deposit box for valuables
-No niceties like soap in the bathroom, washing up liquid in the kitchen etc
-only three government sponsored channels on television and one free-to-air channel with poor, sporadic reception
-Shower in which the water mixers don't work properly. your shower will be hot or cold, nothing in between and no one else can use the water while you are showering

So in the evenings when you hoped to sit outside on the terrace, enjoying a glass of wine and the advertised view, you'll be forced to go out or sit in a stiflingly hot hole with nothing to do. This is blatantly misleading advertising, so do yourself a huge favour and go somewhere else!

A basic law in physics is that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. When the guest started ranting and raving to the extent that the neighbours across the road came out of their house to see what was happening, therefore my reaction. Courtesy is a two way street!

The website clearly states that the 2 self catering units are sepperate and behind the 4 star graded guesthouse and that they are not graded.

Further inaccurasies are the following:-
* All facilities of the guest hose are available to self catering guests
* Security is not negotiable
* The main bedroom has a DOUBLE bed with an innerspring matress
* As a self catering unit, guest supply their own niceties
* TV also the M-net channel. I the reception was sporadic it was due to the transmission

What the guest mentions the heat in the area she fails to also mention that Cape Town had the worst heat wave in a decade at the time of their visit.

One only needs to read the reviews of other guests and look at the ratings to see that the guest in question is a total exception.

Big rooms. Generous bathrooms. In room tea and coffee. Big comfortable bed with an extra bed in my room, number 5. Lovely lounge area overlooking harbour. Close to all that houtbay has to offer. I would stay there again

Just returned from Capetown and from a wonderful stay at the Seacliffe Lodge.I highly recommend this place. Not only a fine property in a great location, but Tom and Seugne go out of their way to make your stay a friendly and family like atmosphere.

We booked a 2 week trip to Cape town & Hout Bay is a great location to tour from. The Seacliffe Lodge is nicely nestled a short way up the hillside overlooking Hout Bay. The rooms are very well appointed & spacious, Tom & Seugne were great hosts & the breakfasts were wonderful. We would return to SA & would not hesitate to stay again.

Room Tip: The room we had at the front on the first floor was excellent.

Stayed four nights at Seacliffe Lodge on my trip to Cape Town this month.
I had a very beautiful room with at wonderful view over the harbor, bay and Chapmans Peak on the opposite side. The room and bathroom was very clean, and a wonderful breakfast was served every morning. Choose English breakfast or whatever you like. Tom, his wife and all of the staff was all very nice and doing everything to secure a nice stay.
It is easy to reach Cape Town by car, or choose the Red Tour bus that stops just opposite the lodge.
I would definitely recommend this place, and it is my no. 1 pick on my next visit to Cape Town.

I had a wonderful time at the Seacliffe Lodge. The rooms are well kept. Bathrooms and room are very clean and well maintained. The staff is also very helpful and friendly. A great spot in Hout Bay. Though Hout Bay is outside of the Cape Town proper, it's a great spot to visit. I would definitely go back. As a female traveling alone, I felt very comfortable and safe.
