“Wine & Dine at its best”

A wonderful guest house to have a couple's weekend in!
Situated in the beautiful surrounding of the Robertson-winelands, this Wine Farm/Guest House offers everything you need for a couple's weekend....we arrived around 2pm and spent the whole afternoon doing a wine-blending in a small wooden house at the river, completely on our own..surrounded by some friendly curious dogs, who live on the premises.
Afterwards, a lovely dinner around 7pm with a most attentive waiter who even offered to serve us when he coincidently spotted me and my girlfriend sitting on the voorstoep of our room enjoying the wine...very nice! Awesome dinner in front of the fireplace, dessert & coffee in front of the 2nd fireplace in the living room - the restaurant set up just for the 2 of us - definitely a recommendation also in off-season!!

Why believe in God when you have already found Heaven? Alternatively, must you believe in God to have been delivered safely here? Looking out from the pool across the green expanse of vines and citrus trees to a series of hills and mountains that fade into the hazy blue sky it is easy to feel that this is what Heaven must be like!

But getting back to earth and accepting the offer of tea on arrival conversation with Emily quickly moved to the merits of Chardonnay over Sauvignon Blanc. We ordered both and were suprised and amused when delivered as bottles in ice buckets and not wine in glasses. "We don't do glass measures," advised Emily. And with a bottle costing significantly less than a glass in England why would they?

We made our original booking and arrangements with Karin who was very helpful and cheerful but was on holiday during our stay when Emily personified the relaxed sophistication that is Excelsior. Indeed even the dogs (we counted six of them) epitimised Excelsior's friendly, chilled and helpful charm willing to show us around the estate either on the golf buggy or on foot.

The rooms are just beautiful with a very comfortable bed lovely and antique furniture and that you would expect on a well maintained old house. The hall and sitting room also boast furniture that must have been there since the house was built.

For those who aspire to an exercise regime that extends to more than raising a glass and wading through the pool this is the place to inspire you. The tracks through the vines and groves are gently undulating but in view of mountainous scenery. Go for a run and you can believe you are running in the mountains but maintain a steady stride for as long as you like. It makes you feel you are so much fitter and all is great in the world. Its a thrill. If I were in SA in June July or August this year I would jump at the chance of the Fit Farm experience, which at around £85 per day (on current exchange rates) is simply amazing value for the chance to push and pamper yourself in this great outdoors.

Room Tip: We had Octavius which is a little larger than others we saw but all rooms looked full of stylish cha...

We spent a 4-day weekend with 4 other couples on a wine-tasting trip to the surrounding area. We were made to feel extremely welcome by the friendly Caren Visser on our arrival. Throughout our stay in very comfortable rooms nothing was too much trouble for her and her friendly staff, to the point of shopping and arranging for a true South African braai (barbeque) on a Sunday evening. Breakfast catered for all tastes and the dinner (available on request) on our first night was delicious. The setting of this working wine farm, with horses and llamas around on 4 perfect Cape days in late April could could not be bettered. We had great fun all round.

We did not make use of room service or the fitness centre.

We loved Excelsior Manor. It is a beautiful place and the whole house has a wonderful atmosphere. The room was so comfortable, and the service and friendliness of the staff was outstanding. Carin made us delicious meals, and the wine complimented them. It was difficult to leave , and next time we will stay longer !

I enjoyed every aspect of my stay at Excelsior Manor. Karin and her staff could not have been more hospitable. The food was first class and the accommodation most comfortable. Thank you all once again.

Room Tip: all different but all look comfortable.

We really enjoyed our stay at Excelsior - we only stayed one night but really wish we could stay longer! The service at the guesthouse was great and really complimented the delicious dinner & wine. The views from the swimming pool area is fantastic.

Room Tip: The Gondolier and Evanthuis rooms offer super king size beds & baths (other rooms mostly shower...

We have never stayed at a place like this before.
Everybody, even the dogs, was friendly and helpful.
The food, the manager Carin is doing the cooking, was very good.
We felt much more like a member of the family than a paying guest.
