“Great choice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2009

We decided to stay at Robertson to break up our drive back to Cape Town on Route 62.
The Ballinderry proved a great choice. Luc and Hilde are very welcoming and the Guest House is lovely. They also organised a trip to the local stud farm and that proved to be a fantastic trip. The breakfast was great and it was a shame we didnt eat dinner in the Guest House as Hilde's food smelt great.
Thank you

Christian and Lisa

We decided to give Robertson a try, having restricted ourselves to Franchhoek and Stellenbosch previously and were not disappointed. It is a "working" town but with lovely tree-lined streets, and as previous reviews have said the wine tasting is friendly and free -worth a visit in their own right, but the main reason the stay is so memorable is Ballinderry.
We had a garden room and it was spacious, light, beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. The owners, Luc and Hilde, are consummate hosts and nothing seemed too much trouble. We ate there the first night and the food was exceptional - decided to explore the next night and regretted that we missed the dinner. Make sure this place is on anyone's itinery!

From the moment you arrive there is a degree of pampering which is wonderful.

Great welcome, great local advice and most of all carefully and tastefully prepapred food.

This second visit gave us the chance to experience an other room and the experience was a further proof that Ballinderry is a quality experience.

Fellow guests from Scandinavia, the United Kingdom as well as locals are treated to a special brand of service by the owners for whom there seem to be no difficulties in pleasing their guests.

The champagne breakfast is not to be missed.

We will be back.

Very nice hosts and a nice guesthouse, the perfect accomodation in Robertson. We loved the lovely dinner of Hilde and the champagne breakfast.

Spend some days of your South African holiday here! Located in the heart of one of the most intresting wine regions of the country, this is an absolutely fantastic guesthouse where you are treated as royalty. Luc and Hilde do a great job in making you feel at home and give you all the information to exploit the area. Their rooms are decorated with very good taste. Don't even bother about looking for a restaurant at night because Hilde's cuisine is delicious. If you are not sure wether Robertson should be on your trip list, go there and like us you'll be convinced.

We choose this guesthouse as it has the name of a village near us in Northern Ireland, and we weren't disappointed! A beautiful house, with excellent rooms, and a beauifully manicured garden.
Luc and Hilde were really lovely, and, as other guests have mentioned, the food is fabulous and both were great hosts. Our room, by the pool, was spotless and very luxurious. Little touches like the cholotate on your pillow, and the blinds pulled at night added to the pampering! We found Robertson very relaxing, lovely scenery, and a great place for lots of wine tastings!! Luc and Hilde are also well able to point you in the right direction for all the 'to dos' in the area. We will certainly be recommending Ballinderry to anyone we know going to South Africa, especially those, who like us , thought that this area was a bit out of the way! A must for at least two or three days, and a real hidden gem.

What a ’find’ the Ballinderry Guest House in Robertson is a great place to stay. The accommodation is very well appointed, the beds especially comfy, nice pool and beautiful garden. However better than all this is the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners Luc and Hilde and the fabulous food!

We had planned to eat at Ballinderry our first night and then find a restaurant for our second night (we like to try different foods). However we could not resist eating Hilde’s delicious food for our second and unfortunately our final night at Ballinderry.

Robertson is an ideal place to stay for a few days. It has good vineyards for wine tasting, in particular we liked Graham Becks for quality wine. Wine tasting is often free in this area whereas we found in the Stellenbosch/Franschhoek area you had to pay. There are good areas for hiking and a nature reserve. A boat trip on the Breede river is fun, first you taste wine, then you purchase a picnic lunch (boxed with glasses and napkins) and then embark on the boat for your 1 hour trip.

Robertson is an excellent starting place for driving across R62. Driving time to Oudtshoorn is 3 hours, however a stop at Calitzdorp to sample the port wine at De Klans breaks the journey nicely.

We stayed in excellent accommodation during our South African holiday and Ballinderry was definitely our favourite!!
