This five star B+B is our home from home in Somerset West and we return each February to the abode of Rafiki the Schnauzer and the house boss –“the Cat”, for a few days. Apparently they keep a few humans around to attend to their – and the guests’ – needs.

What you get at Blaauwheim is a luxury 3 room B+B (2 enormous suites and a decent sized double). The place is always immaculate, with every luxury, including super comfortable beds and quality linens. It is hard to imagine anything you might need that has not been thought of by the hosts. Breakfasts are usually extended affairs, with all guests around a large table. (If “the Cat” is feeling generous, you might get a chair!).

I have waxed lyrical on how good Blaauheim is several reviews now and, once again as usual, we can find very little to criticise about this outstandingly good B+B. How good it is apparent by its stellar TA ratings, kept in that position by an army of Blaauheim fans from around the world, writing reviews like this.

We will be back in 2018 as usual – in fact we have already booked!

Dear Grahame

I've said it before and I'll say it again: a season is just not complete without your review! And being such a prolific reviewer it adds some gravitas to our portfolio. Thank you ever so much. The humans sharing the habitat with Rafiki and "the Cat" were once again delighted to have had you at Blaauwheim and are already looking forward to the quips, pokes and puns at the breakfast table next season.

Stay safe

We stayed at Blaauwheim Guest house for 14 days and we really enjoyed it. Everything was perfect and Jo-Anne and Johan were the best host we could ever imagine. Breakfast was excellent and rich, the bedrooms were very clean and comfortable. Whenever we needed help, Jo-Anne und Johan did their best to plan our days and evenings, even with reservations in restaurants etc.

Spent 3 nights as visiting family at Helderberg Village and this guest house is perfect in terms of proximity and hospitality. The owners are very helpful in accommodating any personal requirements. A beautiful breakfast served each morning on the verandah is the highlight starting with a spectacular fruit plate and freshly baked goods followed by a tasty hot breakfast that will keep you going until dinner!

Dear Adine

We are so glad that you found Blaauwheim and for us to be so near Helderberg Village. Johan enjoys the adjectives describing his fruit platters and "spectacular" is a new one but fits perfectly. Thank you so much. It was our pleasure hosting you at "Blaauw's Home".

Stay safe and stay warm

My husband and I have just spent a week at Blaauwheim as part of a 3 week holiday in South Africa. What a gem!!! The guest house is really well appointed. We had the double bedroom which was very comfortable and had a lovely en suite with a very good shower ( and a bath!). There was a pretty courtyard garden just for our room, which was a nice space to sit in. Everywhere was immaculately clean. And our hosts,Jo-Ann and Johan (plus theirlittle dog, Rafiki and cat, Kitu) were absolutely brilliant!! They looked after us so well. Nothing was too much trouble from getting lots of laundry done to booking restaurants and even providing recipes for Malva pudding!!! And their breakfast was fantastic: wonderful fruit plates, lovely croissants and rolls and whatever sort of combination of egg, bacon, tomatoes etc you could want, and all served on the terrace in their garden. We have moved to our next port of call now and I already miss Blaauwheim. We plan to go back next year. So, if your looking for somewhere to stay where you can explore the Winelands, Cape Town and the coast look no further! Blaauwheim is your place!

Dear Angela

Thanks for staying at Blaauwheim, for this marvellous review and for expanding our knowledge to include the game of croquet too! After "Shiraz" this year, "Pinotage" is waiting for you to return in 2018.

All the best

We have been staying with Johan and Jo-Anne for a number of years now and have just returned from our latest trip. This is a shining jewel in the SA crown of guest houses. From the moment we arrive to the sad moment when we leave we are looked after exceptionally well and enjoy superb accommodation, fantastic food and wonderful hospitality. Our last task before we leave is to make sure we book for next year - see you in 2018 !

Room Tip: There are three suites, the two in the house are larger with balconies; our favourite is Shiraz, because it has a large private patio.
