Great location on a busy road between Somerset and Stellenbosch. The decor is quite eclectic and appealing and the atmosphere relaxed. Unfortunately the food didn't measure up to the same standard, as the dishes were relatively unsophisticated in the way they were cooked and lacked differentiation. The portions were almost too generous and lacking good presentation.

We stopped by Sage because we were craving their winelands burger (brie cheese, carmelized onions, yummy!) and it was a cold day so we wanted to go somewhere with a fireplace. I ordered the burger, and my husband ordered one of their great flatbreads - very big!

We were pleasantly surprised by the addition of a wine seller (in the space between the restaurant and the butchery) - selling at cellar prices. Justin, the sommelier, was absolutely terrific. Not pretentious or snobby in the least, but very helpful. And, he was wisely circulating through the restaurant encouraging diners to try on of the four wines he was tasting today. We both tasted wines, and ended up buying 3 bottles. Great marketing technique!

We'll definitely stop by again - to share a flatbread, drink some wine, and learn a bit more from Justin!

We recently bought a Groupon special for 2 people for wine tasting, and a shared tasting menu platter. The food was excellent! There were 5 items on the platter - a duck springroll, grilled scallop, chicken skewer w/ asian noodles, tunisian pork, and pork cheeks. All the items were very tasty and beautifully presented. On the wine tasting, I'd recommend that the restaurant get some of the smaller wine glasses that many vineyards use for tastings. Pouring a thimble full of wine into a full-sized red wine glass looks very cheap - glass size definitely impacts one's impression.

We really like Sage - we've gone there several times and always had very good food. And the servers are friendly and helpful.

It's better than it looks from the R44 as you go whizzing by. It's worth the stop!
