This is a wonderfull restaurant with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The friendly and competent staff complement the crackling fireplace and immediately puts one at ease.
The food, an interesting mix between slightly novel game dishes (crocodile sashimi featured as a starter) and the more traditional (lamb shank) was not only extremely well prepared but also presented in a manner that shows a great commitment to detail. Combine this with the wine list that is populated with excellent, but reasoanbly priced wines and you certainly have a restaurant worth visiting.
The cheff delivered the mains himself and I was greatly impressed by the springbok fillet that was served.
I would certainly recommend this restaurant to any serious food lover.
It is therefore a shame that the evening was marred by the rather poor treatment of our party of four at the end of the evening. We arrived at about 7:45 and completed a three course meal by about 10:30 on a saturday winters evening. By that time we were the only patrons left.We were presented with a bill without asking for same, while still enjoying conversation and while still contemplating some coffee and cheese. It became patent that the staff wanted us to leave and we started feeling presured to go. Shortly thereafter at about 11:00 we were unceremoniously asked to leave as the staff wanted to close the restaurant. This is truly dissapointing and unacceptable from an establishment that otherwise caters so well for the needs of its customers. I can only hope that this was an isolated incident and not the norm.
