“Warm hosts, incredible rooms, beautiful farm! Great party/wedding venue!!!”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

Andrew and Anneke are the best hosts of any guest house I have ever been to. They are attentive, caring and nothing is too much to ask. The rooms themselves are very spacious, and beautifully decorated. I would recommend requesting a room on the upper level as they have great views. However, once you step out your door you can wander as you please and take in all the beauty. There are paddocks with cows, a river running nearby and a great view of the nearby mountains. The accommodation is perfect to book out for small to medium weddings and parties. We were there for my mother's 50th, and it was perfect. The food was also top quality, especially the breakfasts! I also went for an early morning walk and managed to spot 38 different bird species in 2 hours, which was impressive. Anneke showed us the chapel which is gorgeous, with custom stained glass windows, and Andrew showed us the trophy room with endless motoring history. The venue would be perfect for any motoring enthusiasts groups. All in all there isn't anything bad I can say about the establishment or the staff, it was a highly enjoyable, homely weekend experience.

We experienced a warm and friendly welcome on arrival .Shown our fabulously comfortable rooms, Superb breakfast choices, all set in beautiful Cape Dutch architecture. There is an intimate chapel which offers an ideal setting for weddings, christenings and vowel renewals. A home from home ambiance. We'll be back again soon!!

This was a one night , first visit. What a mistake !! We should have discovered this wonderful farm hidden gem much sooner in the course of our visits to South Africa, and for an extended stay. Despite being just off the N2, it was not easy to locate. However, our hosts were welcoming , attentive, kind and generous to a fault. Our "room" was in reality a suite, with a double bathroom and double shower area, the sleeping area spacious and beautifully furnished. The food was delicious, and included a dinner invitation in the interesting company of two of Andrew and Anneke's friends : a great mix of gorgeous food, wine, laughter and chat. The farm complex is lovingly presented with a blend of buildings that include a chapel and a museum. Even the cows and dogs were welcoming. After motorway driving, this was a haven of rest and seclusion that should figure in any busy schedule. To enjoy the tranquility of the lovely gardens and fields was a joy. Certainly our hosts made time for us. We have to make time to return for a longer stay at de wagenhuis. Such hospitality was exceptional, and at a price that does not hurt your pocket. Thank you : a highly pleasurable experience we will never forget.

We as tour operators, Tours4you, organised a group tour of 16 "young at heart" travellers to De Wagenhuis. This was our second visit to this lovely farm and our first since the new accommodation wing "District Seven" has been completed.
The comfortable, spacious en-suite units are very tastefully furnished, have flat screen TVs and tea/coffee making facilities. The converted "wagon house" accommodation is excellent and was occupied by some members of the group. Both accommodations have a charm of their own.
As De Wagenhuis is on a working dairy and citrus farm, we saw newborn calves, cows being milked, strolled in the orchards and generally enjoyed country life and hospitality at its best.
The breakfasts and dinners were delicious. Andrew and Anneke are excellent hosts and the staff very considerate and helpful. We had such a wonderful time that the 3 night stay passed far too quickly.
This is the ideal base for visiting interesting places in the area.

We found this place by chance for an overnight stop driving back from Plettenberg to Cape Town. We did not have a satnav and it was difficult to find; there is no signpost at the road. It was well worth the hunt. Annekle had not intended to be open that evening but she welcomed us and rustled up a snack which we did not expect. We had a huge apartment to ourselves. Very spacious, very clean and very traditional. The Wagon House is a listed building that they have restored. In the morning there was a magnificent breakfast served by very friendly staff. Andrew and Anneke showed us round this fascinating property. A large separate guest house, pool and chapel. There is a also a trophy room like a small personal museum. They also showed us the chapel including the small stained glass windows which they made themselves. This is also a working farm with cattle.
Marvellous, highly recommended ideal stop off en route to/from Plettenberg and would not mind a few days stay for R & R. Would like to return with more time.

Room Tip: Any room will be great.

We enjoyed three nights on this lovely farm in comfortable and attractive accommodation. The breakfasts and dinners were excellent and our hosts charming. The pool was a delight as were walks round the farm, with the dogs. We strongly recommend.

We stayed at de Wagenhuis and were made most welcome by Anneke and Andrew. They have converted an historic wagon house from the 1790s to a superb guest house with a lovely appartment consisting of 2 bedrooms, each with its own lounge and bathroom and a communal dining room and separate large kitchen, which we had for only 2 of us, and upstairs more guest bedrooms, which we did not see but are sure they would be of the same high standard.
There is a huge reception room with an honesty bar, sitting and eating areas, patio and superb views. This being a working farm it was interesting to see the beasts walking across the fields for milking, but the only noise came from the chickens at the end of the garden, and that was very muted.
We had a day's R&R after Cape Town and it was lovely to lie by the pool, with a gazebo for shade if needed, with the lovely flower beds of the main farm house to look at.
DInner had been booked for our second evening, but Anneke was only too delighted to rustle up a light meal (for South Africans that is, more than adequate for Brits) of Springbok carpaccio and salad for me, chicken and chips for my husband, at a moment's notice. The pre-booked meal the next night was 3 courses, roast lamb the main course, and so reasonable in price. Anneke and Andrew kept us company both nights to ensure that all was well with us, a most appreciative gesture.
We felt that they were offering hospitality for it's own sake and not as a business - it seemed like we were staying there as friends, and that was after only two nights. I'm sure we could have found a more slick establishment, but never a friendlier place. We were recommended by friends who said it was a must - how right they were.
