Owner description: This former government building, an architectural treasure in itself, is now a museum containing some impressive artifacts. Particularly noteworthy is a collection of late 18th and early 19th century Cape furniture.

“Interesting History”
Reviewed 6 March 2014

You should include a visit as part of any trip to Swellendam. A good insight into the history of the town. The museum is on various sites in close proximity to each other. Well worth the visit

“Museum”

So much more interesting than we thought it would be and the curator even went and turned the pumps on so that we could see how the watermill worked.

“Interesting museum and lovely setting”
Reviewed 21 February 2014

I enjoyed this museum which gave a good picture of what life must have been like when the area was settled and people all started to move to the area. The houses and building are well looked after . The staff were very pleasant and helpful. A very nice setting and a pleasant way to spend an hour or so and think about how life was some years ago.

“Historic collection of buildings”
Reviewed 17 February 2014 via mobile

The R25 entrance entitles you to visit four different buildings all close together. The staff were helpful, the restoration of the buildings was first class but the exhibits lacked a bit of life - they could have done with some video clips of the different trades (tanner, smithy, wainwright, cooper, etc) that show how the tools on display were used. Good value for money.

Very nice buildings and some history. Gives you some insight in the way the town was constructed. Nice for on a cloudy day.
