Beautiful mountain zebra and some antelope that I didn't recognise, as well as some stunning tall aloe trees.

Thank Peter L

What you pay: 80 rand per person. What you get in return: a permit to drive around a boring steppe-like area with a few springboks and almost no trees or anything else. Roads are rocky and dirty. Almost no information given about the area. Really not worth it at all.

Be forewarned that the roads are a bumpy challenge for the typical car, but we did it with a Honda rental car. There are not many routes through the park. There is a basic loop trail with several stops that take off from it. Some forms of wildlife are commonly found here that you find few other places like the Bontebok, the Cape Zebra, and the Blue Crane. You may have to look for quite a while before finding the Cape Zebras, but we eventually were rewarded. You need about three hours for a decent tour here. You could spend longer if you hike more. This is not a trip for those who like a smooth drive through a national park, but it is worth it for those who wish to invest a little more to see a little more. You can get assistance where you pay at the visitor center, but it is fairly basic with good restrooms and simple things like drinks available. Stock up here or take your own supplies because it is the only place you will find them in this park.

Worth a quick visit when in the area (we were driving from the Garden Route area to Hermanus so it was on the way). See the rare bontebok in their natural habitat. Hiking trail is available.

we loved walking in the park alone which is something you can not do in parks with more dangerous wildlife
