Situated in a historic quarter of Swellendam small houses are put in a flowering garden. There is not much space to put your belongings in bedroom and bath, but for a short stop its nice. The 'Herberge' offers also good meals for dinner.

Stayed here twice on our way East and on the way back to Cape Town. As a one night stopover it is more than adequate but not a place where I would want to spend a week. Swellendam doesn't appear to have a great deal to offer tourists!! However we were warmly received, offered coffee and the choice of breakfast was good. Of the three places we stayed this was the most expensive, but even so it was very reasonable.

The beds, food, decor, etc are all fine, but the welcome is ZERO. From the moment we arrived we felt that we were unwelcome. If you don't like people and are unwilling to cater to their needs, you shouldn't be in the hospitality industry...

Everyone here is ever so friendly and the ambience is unbeatable. the single rooms around the pool have such character and the breakfast is delicious. definitely the place to stay if you ate in the Swellendam area - a taste of the old Cape!

Lovely bed and breakfast. Well appointed rooms that are clean, comfortable and spacious. The room we stayed in was on the second floor and had a private balcony with a beautiful view of the mountains. The bathroom was very large and had a skylight which made for delightful sun-filled showers. Breakfast was cooked with fresh vegetables and both hot and cold options. We only stayed one night but wish we could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor so that you can wake up to private views of the mountains.

Very friendly welcome, however the location was not so good
Average food and wine
No air conditioning, breakfast was poor
Overall we think that the price quality relation was average
But generally we were content with our stay

We spent a wonderful evening and night at the charming Roosje van de Kaap guesthouse in Swellendam. The rooms are arranged around the garden and, after our children were asleep, it was so relaxing to sit out there, reading and listening to the peace and quiet. The guesthouse is in an excellent spot, just outside the centre of the town, opposite the Drostdy. The owner was helpful and informative. And breakfast the next morning was delicious. A stay at this lovely guesthouse and a day looking at the beautiful architecture of Swellendam are highly recommended.
