We only spent one evening here en route to the Cape, but wished we could have stayed longer! The guest cottages set in the lush garden are private and very well appointed, and the hosts are very charming and knowledgeable about the area. Close to all the restaurants and historical center of town. Will definitely stay there again when passing by.

Stopped in Swellendam en route to Cape Town during our 2010 World Cup odyssey. We were so pleased that we had booked Augusta de Mist. Four of us shared the lovely Red Hot Poker cottage. An unneccessary, but memorable visit to the Full Stop Grill in town prevented our spending more time in the cottage and taking advantage of its many amenities. Breakfast was fantastic and hosts, Madeline and Rob Harrison couldn't be kinder. Would love to stop back!
(Some television cable and electric power issues were a minor inconvenience, but barring those, this place was perfect!)

Was recommended by Plettenberg Bay Hotel as a stop over en route to Cape Town. Stayed in Arum cottage - Lovely rustic style. The furnishings and decor in all the guest house / cottages are really stylish but you still feel very relaxed and comfortable. Hosts are great - very friendly. Ate in the nearby Koornlands restaurant - has a very varied menu and again was very friendly. Can't believe this is not at, or close to, the top of the places to stay in Swellendam - would go back straight away if we are in the area again.

A unique venue with unusual touches designed by the very friendly resident owners. Each unit is unique and one gets the feeling of actually being in Africa. There is also separate family accomodation in a 2 bed 2 en-suite thatched house. Luxury bed-linen/towels etc and a fantastic 5* breakfast eaten outdoors (indoors if you are unfortunate to be there when it rains). The units are reached by a relaxing meander through a beautiful garden and passes the clean, small swimming pool. The owners are very keen to talk and listen to you if you so wish and their knowledge of the local and surrounding areas should be tapped into. They are able to arrange golf, mountain walks and can advise on places to eat . Swellendam has a very safe, friendly feel about it and is well placed for the Garden and Wine routes. We travel requently to South Africa and have stayed in numerous accommodation but always find time to stay at Augusta de Mist. If you are looking for routine hotel type accomodation with long corridors and box-like rooms then this is not the place for you.
