“Stunning & relaxing with superb personal service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2010

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon trip to South Africa and could easily have spent more time here. The owners were friendly and personal with attentive staff but not over bearing. The pool was beautifully kept and well stocked with fresh towels as were the rooms. The bedroom/lounge was really comfortable with digital TV and a sofa to relax by the window. The huge bathroom was spectacular with an amazing shower, perfect after the pool or just to relax in.
The chef prepared excellent and original hot breakfasts to accompany the wide range of buffet cereals, fruits and yoghurts.
Overall we loved Schoone Oordt and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

We feel everyone should visit this heavenly piece of Paradise to be spoilt. On arrival met by Myles who is also a very gifted chef - wait for his breakfasts! We were escorted to our room which was set in fantastic gardens. Alison the owner has not left anything to the imagination, i could not catch her out, everything one could wish for was there, crisp white sheets with the Schoone Oordt emblem embroided in to the sheets and fluffy white towels. Large high powered shower - a bath with lovely fresh oils to pamper yourself, also big enough to share with your loved one! Miles arrived with a plate of
cheese and drink of our choice to say 'Welcome'. He recommended a lovely Restaurant that turned out to not only have great food but was fun as well.
The breakfast was even more pleasurable, Miles kept producing Courses of lovely fruit with yogurt and his Theme Breakfast - his Stacked Tower - if you have room to eat it - well done! Our last surprise - we came out to find our car had been washed whilst we were eating our breakfast. What a joy - we did not want to leave this smart but
unpretentious piece of heaven.

First of all, ignore the classification: this is not a B&B. Well, it is, in that it does not serve lunch and dinner. But it is more like a five star hotel masquerading as a B&B, except that it is embarrassingly, plainly, fabulously better than the vast majority of 5 star hotels at everything it does: the breakfasts (I was unsure whether to eat or photograph what was on my plate), the welcome, the painstaking attention to detail, the luxury of the rooms, the seclusion of the pool, the gardens in courtyards, the fountains, and so on. For me - and I write as an almost idiotically hard to please, horrifically fussy traveller, a resolute snob who veers automatically towards the grandest end of the hotel scale - it simply redfines the genre of "accommodation", and certainly of Bed and Breakfasts. Everything has been thought through with an almost maniacal eye for detail. As a result, you can simply relax. Restaurant reservations, even transport - everything was simply taken care of. Nowhere else in Swellendam seemed to hold any appeal; I certainly did not have that annoying feeling that I wished I had stayed somewhere else. In fact, our next night (in Mcgregor) was a genuine come-down after Schoone Oordt.

This is a superb hotel, with tastefully decorated well furnished bedrooms and a wonderfull light and airy breakfast room overlooking the beautiful gardens. Breakfast was excellent with interesting menu. Of particular note are the beautifully laid out gardens and pool, even if you are only staying for one night do try and allow some time to enjoy them. Whilst in Swellendam (if you have time) try to make it down to De Hoop Nature Reserve, the sand dunes and sea are spectucular.

We have just returned from a 3 week trip to South Africa and stayed here for one night on our way returning to Cape Town. A big regret is that we only stayed for one night. Dont make the same mistake we did stay longer enjoy Schoone Oordt and Swellendam.
We arrived in the afternoon to be welcomed by Alison and Richard the Owners and shown to our stunning cottage in the grounds of a truly stunning guest house. We were then treated to a welcome drink and cheese platter in the conservatory. The house is simply delightful with an attention to detail that would challenge many of the top hotels we have stayed in to match. In the morning we had a truly memorable gourmet breakfast cooked in a way that demonstrates a real understanding of food, flavour and technique. It was my birthday and when Alison overheard us talking we were treated to a bottle of bubbly to accompany our breakfast. Make no mistake this is one of the best guest houses you will ever stay in where every little thing is thought of and provided and an attention to detail second to none.Combine all of this with a genuine warmth from the owners and you have an experience not to be missed.

What a beautiful house. We only stayed here one night while driving the garden route - could kick myself for not booking longer. The place is superbly renovated, calm, peaceful but friendly. Alison made us feel very welcome and introduced us to her lovely family which gives the place a very homely feel.

Swellendam is an interesting town with restaurants within walking distance although we had booked one a drive away and were offered a lift there and back so we could enjoy a bottle of wine - very thoughtful.

If we go back to south africa this is one placve we would definitely stay again.

It was 44 degrees when we arrived in Swellendam,so stepping inside an efficently air conditioned room was bliss. This beautiful victorian house has been superbly restored with love and attention to detail. We were attended to swiftly and with warmth and friendliness and offered refreshments immediately. Our room was exceptionally clean and in addition to tea/coffee making facilities and a mnibar (bottled water complimentary),there were home made biscuits which were fresh and delicious. The standard of the breakfast was excellent.Freshly squeezed juices, good choice of cereals etc and the cooked breakfast was hot and tasty.I would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely house or revsisting it ourselves.
