There is a reason why a guest house is often a better choice than a hotel. Apart from the obvious financial benefit, when you're travelling on your own, it's nice to stay in a homely environment instead of a personality-dead hotel. Sauvignon guest house is located in one of the prettiest and most tranquil surroundings of the Wellington winelands and the service is beyond excellent. Lady of the house, Mariska, makes an unbelievable breakfast (I'm talking homemade croissants and danishes, fresh fruit salad and fresh rolls). The rooms are an absolute treat too. Each room has beautiful contemporary design, completely kitted out with anything you might possibly need (there was even a cell phone charger and a personal coffee machine!). This is a boutique guest house unlike any other guest house I have ever stayed at. So plan a Bains Kloof pass trip to Wellington and experience true Belgian hospitality (and gastronomy if you play your cards right!) at Sauvignon.

We stayed at the Sauvignon Country Lodge on Feb 14th and 15th. We were going to a wedding at Lankloof Roses, which was a 10 minute drive away. The room was very modern in design, clean and comfortable, and the air conditioning was fabulous -the temperatures soared to over 42C during our stay. Chris and Marika were welcoming and relaxed hosts and went out of their way to be kind, particularly when our son-in-law and our young grandchildren, who were staying elsewhere with no air conditioning, turned up in search of comfort! Mariska welcomed them and even found C Beebies on the TV in our room for our 4 year old to watch. Also, they took us and collected us from the wedding - way beyond kind since there were no taxis in the area. We recommend this as a place to stay in the most beautiful winelands, and we wish Chris and Mariska all the very best in this new venture.

We stayed 3 weeks in this very nice bed and breakfast. As from the first minute it was like coming home. very nice and clean rooms with all the comfort you need. Very good breakfast , possibility to have a snack for lunch or a very tastefull dinner. We received a lot of tips for daytrips and enjoyed the nice garden and swiming pool. Perfect location to start your trips to visit the Western cape. Thanks Kris and Mariska for your hospitality. We are coming back.

Kris and Mariska are wonderful hosts, very friendly and there to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Their lodge was absolutely awesome! We were both excited for our honeymoon and our first night stop-over was at Sauvignon Country Lodge. We had seen photos on the website and also what Kris and Mariska had sent - when we arrived all our expectations were exceeded! The room was absolutely perfect and their attention to detail (even around the home and garden) is outstanding! Lovely pool area to just chill and relax. Breakfast was also great! Very healthy and a lovely variety. It is very peaceful - and not too far from wine farms and Wellington town. I can definitely recommend their guest house to everyone! Thank you Kris and Mariska! Charlie and Taryn (Cape Town)

Room Tip: We stayed in Ruby Cabernet and it is just perfect!

On a visit from Switzerland, we stayed one week at the Sauvignon Country Lodge and we were overall very pleased. The rooms are very nice with contemporary furniture, are perfectly cleaned every day and have very good air conditioning systems. The Sauvignon Country lodge is well located to visit the Western Cape: 50 minutes from Cape Town, in the middle of the beautiful wine area and 2 minutes from the center of Wellington. Plenty of options for lunch and dinner in the area. But the best part of our stay came from Kris and Mariska. They are excellent hosts and they serve their guests with great service. They are always ready to give advice for trips and a few times a week they provide excellent dinner. They are overall very respectful for their visitors all the time.

The house is neat and different with a touch of love and TLC. Very healthy breakfast with exquisite tea from all around the world. Although the weather was hot the rooms are cool and large. I was very impressed with the surroundings and all the wine estates in the area. Perfect for the cycling tour. Paarl has this magnificent Victorian architect with a few very beautiful properties on offer.

We were very pleased with our stay at Sauvignon Lodge. Our host Mariska was warm and friendly but never intrusive. The rooms are beautifully furnished and decorated. The double sized bath was a highlight. The breakfasts were extremely fresh with great variety. Our only reservation was that there was no door on the bathroom but otherwise we would recommend this venue to anyone passing through Wellington.

Room Tip: Don't forget your bathing costumes. We were disappointed not to have brought ours when we saw th...
