After reading good things in TripAdvisor, we arrived in Bali eager to check-in to our "One Bedroom private Pool Suite Villa" at the Bali Dream Suite Villa. It was to be a romantic mini-honeymoon weekend,

Staff picked us up on time at the airport in a private car, and all was fine, until 10mins into the journey, she announced that they were currently overbooked because of errors in their booking system, and would have to put us up at nearby accommodations, – Villa Athena – claiming it was of same standard and value. We were shocked as we had made our booking months ago, said it was a special occasion and sent follow-up emails to confirm our booking up to the day before our arrival and called to set our airport pick-up time. At no time in all this communication did they volunteer this crucial information. Honestly, if they had let us know about this issue weeks ago, we would have happily rescheduled our trip.

Now we felt ambushed and trapped as we were already in their vehicle on the road, apparently being escorted to that other place, with no say in the matter. We quickly checked the other villa they mentioned on TripAdvisor, read the bad reviews and that their 1br villas were worth only 1/2 the published nightly rate of the Bali Dream Suites. When we questioned the staff about this, we did not receive a response. Only after heated discussion did the staff grudgingly call their management and eventually said they had a villa and we could stay there.

We were still rattled but relieved that plans were seemingly back on track since we had already made prior arrangements with various spas with Bali Dream Suite as our pick-up point.

Drove off the main road into small, bumpy back streets until we arrived at the main compound. The surroundings were dismal but our hopes were lifted when we walked through a narrow but lush walkway to the small lobby area. We were a little encouraged by this and the cold drink they offered soothed somewhat. Looking at the map, we were in a pretty central location to all the spas and restaurants we wanted to visit. By the time they came to escort us to the only available villa, we were in a much better mood.

Until we saw where we were going to stay.

The 3br villa (they told us it was number 150 but was no indication at the entrance we could see) was situated around the corner from the main compound with the main entrance facing a construction site. There were motorcycles parked in the driveway, and when we asked the staff who they belonged to, she had no idea.

Past the doors, were dying plants and a living area that was very spacious, neatly laid out, but dusty, with a filthy kitchenette and empty fridge (we were promised a minibar in the package).

The pool area looked lovely at first sight, until we realised that there were many mosquitos buzzing around. We quickly shuffled into the master bedroom, where we were told apologetically that they didn't have a phone setup in the room (package was to include an international direct dial telephone). The floor was extremely dusty and there was lizard droppings on the make-counter. King-sized bed had no mosquito net that was promised in the package, and we resorted to sticking our anti-mosquito patches around the bed frame as a temporary measure.

The worst was the huge, open-air concept bathroom. Usually we've welcomed this at other resorts where lush fauna guarantees privacy, but when the open-air bathroom is directly next to a construction site and you can hear workers speaking animatedly next door, it's less of a treat. Bathing was an extremely uncomfortable experience. The glass shower walls were dusty and water stained, there was mold on the soap holder with an opened, used bar of soap there. No shampoo etc. was provided except for another bar of soap at the sink. Liquid soap dispenser was empty. Thank goodness we brought our own. But all this was topped by the horrible waterlogged sunken area covered with pebbles that had a mud-filled pot– the makings of perfect mosquito breeding ground.

By then we were wondering why our ride to the spa was late. It wasn't until we heard distant yelling outside the gate that we found out the villa didn't even have a doorbell. No phone no doorbell – the poor driver had no way of contacting us.

Upon our return, we found many lizards in the living area feasting on the mozzies, so chose to again retire to the safety of our master bedroom. There we were pleasantly surprised that the staff had taken the initiative to create a pretty image with towels and rose petals on our bed and the bathtub. However, once we lay on the bed we realised that (1) there were huge cobweb webs on the ceiling (2) the sheets were stained (3) we were only given 1 pillow each and when we searched for extras, we found them messily piled in a wardrobe with no covers (4) one light above the bed had a blown bulb and there was no switch in the room that would turn the other two spotlights off.

To our dismay we had to try to sleep with the two bright spotlights shining in our eyes, as every light switch wouldn't control it (we even tried the switches in the main living area thinking it might be controlled by some elusive master switch). With no phone, there was no way to contact the villa reception unless we made an overseas call on our mobile, and as it was past 11pm we didn't want to walk out through the dirty alley to the reception area.

Completely exhausted, that was when we decided to book a room at another hotel for our 2nd night.

We had arranged for breakfast to be delivered to our villa the next morning, and again we didn't hear the poor waiter at the gate who had to yell because there was no doorbell. We felt so bad for the guy but there wasn't anything we could do. The breakfast had a generous breadbasket, but the toast and pastries were cold. The omelet, single slice of bacon and solitary chipolata was nothing to rave about, and while there was a decent variety of fruit on the platter, none were sweet save the watermelon. Juice was watered down orange concentrate.

That was enough to convince us we made the right decision to stay at another hotel. We quickly packed and told the reception staff that we wanted to check-out. The lady that attended to us when we arrived asked why. We listed everything down and shared that it was a disaster night's stay that did the complete opposite of rest/relaxation. To her credit she did apologise and offered us another villa to choose from that was available. But it truly was too little too late. We were just glad when our cab arrived to take us away from that place.

Other promises not kept:
1. Free in-room Internet wifi service --- Nope.
2. Coffee/tea making facilities --- We saw an old electric kettle but no coffee/tea or any other drinks for the matter.
3. Bathrobe --- Nope.

Perhaps if the management had alerted us earlier of the booking issue before we'd flown in, this whole unfortunate experience could have been avoided. Am sure others have enjoyed their experience here in better circumstances. However, after this, it would be impossible for us to personally recommend the place for anyone looking for a well-deserved break.

We stayed here for 10 nights in a 2 bedroom villa with our family & another family in a 2 bedroom villa next door. The setting is a beautiful lush tropical garden, with each villa having its own pool. The villas were on the small side though, with not much room for the kids to play or for us to hang out. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Only down side was it is in the middle of suburban Seminyak & not much to do or see in walking distance. The hotel have a free shuttle service, which was terrific - but had to be arranged 1 hour in advance. The restaurant at the hotel was excellent for breakfast, but lacked good quality food options for lunch & dinner - meaning we had to drive into Seminyak for dinner most nights. Great value, quality accommodation though.

Room Tip: Ask to stay at Bali Dream Villa no. 1 - the rooms are bigger than the other Bali Dream Villa locatio...

Please bear in mind there are either two or three Bali Dream sites.....we thought there were only two. I went to great trouble, when booking, to ensure were were booked into the Bali Dream SUITE Villa, and not the Bali Dream Villa, after reading Trip Advisor's feedback. I even printed out the booking references, stating we were at the Bali Dream Villa SUITE, and packed it in my overnight bag. After a long trip, we arrive, only to find they want to get a driver to take us to the Bali Dream Villas, five minutes down the road. NO WAY! showed my paperwork, and after a ten minute wait, we were taken to out room . We would not have known, if we did not read comments and reviews on Tripadvisor!
Our holiday was lovely from then on! yes, it is out off the beaten track, but we really enjoyed it. On thing I was not happy about, we asked if we could have a driver/transfer take us to the airport to go home. Price was not mentioned. Next day, I heard a lady complaining in the lobby about the price of the driver to the airport, and upon speaking with her, I promptly cancelled the transfer/driver we had booked for the next day.
PRICE.....150,000 rupiah PER PERSON! absolute rip off! 2 People 300,000 rupiah
We then booked a taxi, the fare came to total, of 60,000 for both of us, happy to tip him 40,000, so we were 200,000 in pocket
BEWARE OF THIS! Otherwise enjoyed our stay, would not say I would go back, but it was pleasant for a once only.

Room Tip: any room in the bali dream villa SUITES, but not bali dream VILLA, they are crappy

Suite was lovely, but only a double bed. Also, free wifi, but did not work in the villa. Cable tv ws poor with only 1 english channel! I paid on credit card, but did not see a receipt. It was not until I returned home and checked my statement, that I found we had been charged a lot more than we should have been. An email to the resort has gone unanswered and no money refunded. So beware!

First off, the hotel itself is great. Staff and service are excellent. Food is really good. And the spa is fantastic too. So if you're liking all this and just want to chill in the privacy of your villa without caring much for the outside world, then this is a fantastic place.

The one problem is location. The towns of Seminyak and Kuta are not very nice at all - very touristy, crowded, loud... These aren't good places to experience Bali... But they are places to stay if you want the beach scene. However, the Villas are not that close to the beach and while you can walk there, the walk is definitely not pleasant, across busy roads with broken down sidewalks or no sidewalks at all at times. The hotel however offers a good and timely drop off and pickup service, so make use of that as it's free.

Another potential problem is that you may have to argue your way to a nicer room on your first night there - as it seems that hotel management overbooks the villas by one night and puts the newly arrived guests in a MUCH lower class villa across the street, while telling them that there is a temporary problem with the room they booked and that the problem will be fixed the next day. This seems to have happened to several guests who arrived during the time we stayed there, and it happened to us as well. They were nice and apologetic about it and at first we didn't mind spending the night in a different hotel, but when we actually saw the replacement villa they offered us for the first night, it was absolutely terrible - dirty, old, with a rusty fridge in the garden! However, when we complained repeatedly, they moved us to a nicer villa unit, still across the street, but it was at least somewhat comparable to the villa we'd actually booked and paid for. The next day we were moved to the Dream Suite Villa and from then on the experince at the hotel was really great. It just was annoying to start out our holiday arguing for what was rightfully ours, especially since it was obvious that other guests were finding themselves in the same predicament. As my husband put it, this place is awesome once you get in - and if you don't leave it to walk anywhere.

And finally, be aware that they will only charge your credit card for the room rate in rupiah once you check out- which means that the actual rate will be higher than what you would have counted on when booking the villa online. We booked on booking.com and ended up paying a total of US$120 more than expected after all the currency exchange fees etc.

All in all it's a great hotel, but I would not stay here again due to location and the hassle they've put us through on our first night.

The villa i stayed is nicely maintained with the pool crystal clear and no falling dry leaves. Like the open air shower with the plant! the only problem is mosquitoes ..... they could have done more to keep the mozzis at bay.

Peaceful sleep with the mozzi net closed :) I hope the satellite TV will have more movie and maybe National Geography channel? The breakfast is not 5 star but well enough for the day's adventure.

The difference of Bali Dream Suite is its staff, if I have to praise. they make the effort to remember my name and very helpful in taking care of my requests and helping me with my WiFi connection problems.

Overall very enjoyable stay and hope to go back again soon.

We have just returned from Bali where we had 9 nights at the Bali Dream Villa Suites. Well initially we had booked at their regular villas - which were absolutely lovely - however, after a night of heavy rain we had a few leaks in the roof. They handled the situation so well and initially offered us the larger villa next door which we were happy with. They then came to us and said they had another group of villa suites about 10 minutes away which they took us to for a look. Well it was a no-brainer so we moved to the suite and it was absolutely perfect. Cannot recommend it highly enough. The accommodation - amazing, the staff - just lovely and the entire experience there was exactly what we wanted. So if you are after privacy, no noisy kids, a day spa with services and staff do die for - this is the place for you. We will definitely we going back there next time we're in Bali.
