We love to stay at a villa in Seminyak when we go to Bali but they usually have a couple of small flaws. At the Seminyak Icon villas it's like someone sat down and figured out to fix those flaws.
Many villas in Bali have the kitchen/living/dining area as an open outdoor room. While this is an attempt to replicate the traditional living areas of Balinese style homes, at dusk it will have you running for the safety of the bedroom as the mosquitos arrive. The Seminyak Icon has solved this by installing sliding doors in the living area so during the day you can open them up and enjoy the freedom of outdoor living and at night close them and enjoy a meal and view of the pool in air-conditioned comfort.
Likewise many villas in Bali have an outdoor shower/bathroom. Once again the mosquitos will have you running the gauntlet every visit. The bathroom in the Seminyak Icon one-bedroom villa has a small open skylight on one side so that you still get natural light and fresh air but is cleverly covered at the top with an insect screen.
The other thing that is often a nuisance in a villa (and any hotel room for that matter) is the mini-bar. After a big splurge at Bali Deli or Bintang Supermarket it's hard to remember which drinks in the fridge are yours and which are the part of the mini-bar. How does the Seminyak Icon solve this problem? They give you a fridge stocked with drinks (including two Bintangs) for free! We we there for six days and didn't even get through them all!
The staff at the Icon are fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Ronald and Mena on the front desk speak excellent English and arranged restaurant reservations and transport when we needed it. The villas are tastefully decorated and the bathroom is a good size with separate bath and shower. The breakfast choices are amazing (you won't need lunch!). It's a short walk to the Bali Deli and a Periplus book store. The only downside is that the road the villas are on is a little rough. The villas are on Jalan Bali Deli next door to the Kamuela Villas. A few taxi drivers have trouble finding the road so direct them to Jalan Kunti (pronounced Koonty) off Jalan Sunset and then take the first right. It was a wonderful place to stay and we would definitely go back.
