“Luxury without the price tag”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2011

We stayed in Villa Kawi and we loved it. As someone else mentioned here, this Villa is just like its photos on the website. The upstairs 'loft' area was a lovely space to sit and read, or to write at the desk. The semi open-air kitchen overlooking the shared pool that lies between four villas was gorgeous. The semi open-air bathroom was luxurious too. Unfortunately, the mosquitos at Villa Kresna were worse than any other place we stayed at in Bali, so we did limit the time we spent in the kitchen and bathroom areas. Even though I'd covered my 3 year old in mozzie repellent before bedtime, he still woke up with fresh bites from the mozzies that had snuck in when we opened the doors. The mozzies were the ONLY negative thing about Villa Kresna...perhaps the owners could fog the area? It would make all the difference to this otherwise luxurious environment.
The service here was great. Staff would light mozzie coils in the kitchen area on dusk, and would move things under cover when rain threatened. They also happily stored our luggage for a week while we went to Lombok.
Villa Kresna's location was in the quiet 'back blocks' between the main street (Jalan Seminyak) and the beach. We rented a motorbike from nearby 'Mr Agung' and rode to nearby restaurant precinct on Oberoi Street, to Bintang Supermarket, Bali Deli, etc.
The restaurant was great but seemed poorly utilised - no doubt because of the Villa's backstreet location.

Dear BrisbaneFamily123, Thank you for staying at Villa Kresna and thank you for your feedback. We are currently fumigating and environment friendly mosquito population control. We also provide as part of our amenities set up in the rooms a bottle of mosquito repellent spray from natural ingredients. We do hope that you will comeback again very soon.

Villa Kresna exceeded our expectations! It looked exactly like on their website and pictures. The staff are super friendly and everyone is eager to help. The Art Cafe is also very nice and they served us breakfast at our little villa. We stayed at Villa Kawi, stunning! Just remember that their are 2 locations for Villa Kresna, my taxi driver dropped me at the wrong one, currently being build, but luckily it was just about 500m by foot to the other one. I think at $90 for a villa, you cannot beat this. Great value for what you get. Also loved the swimming pool just out the door. Villa Kawi also has a kitchen so you could even cook up a storm if you are staying for longer. The location is great, but you will need to rent a scooter, the beach is walking distance away. We really enjoyed it here and would return any day!

Great place for a family to stay in the roomy and simple but clean villas. Good restaurant and very nice staff. Very accomodating and helpful. A little out of the way for walking to the heart of town but fairly close to the beach and down a nice quiet lane.

Clean, friendly, very helpful, nice decor, good location & the art cafe restaurant at the entrance did the best nasi goreng i've had in bali yet. I'd go back for sure.

We found this hotel on the Lonely Planet Guide and called for a room for 3 nights. The hotel is just 5 min away from the main shopping street of Seminiyak and walking distance to the beach. We were given the room just next to the reception - we loved it straight away.
Bright room with lovely furniture and open spaces - very spacious compared to the typical hotel room sizes. It was a bit warm but the bedroom could be closed from the living room so we always kept it locked with the AC on all day.
There was a small kitchen with basic facilities and the bathroom was also open space.
Prices are extremely good - mini bar and laundry.
The rates include breakfast which can be served either in the room or at the main restaurant. The menu is a la carte.
There is a pool that is located in the middle of 4 other villas.
The restaurant has live entertainment at least 3 times a week - we sat there one evening listening to guitarist and vocalist. It was beautiful.
I will definately go back on my next visit to Bali!

We were looking for a relatively inexpensive Bali style villa for two weeks for 2 mums + 2 kids. For us this was PERFECT! Its a little out of the way tucked behind the Oberoi on a small one way street. It means the hectic hustle of Seminyak is just kept at bay a bit....some might prefer being in the thick of things, but we liked that short stroll before the madness. Taxis still came past our front door or could be called from reception - (I noted another reviewer complained about always needing a taxi....hey, Rp6,000 to Seminyak Square is about AU$0.75c! to La Lucciola it's maybe AU$1!)

We were in Villa Merapi with friends and then my daughter and i moved to Villa Kawi for our second week. From the website we were anticipating an older property and hoped it wouldn't be too tired. We were thrilled to find it much fresher and well fitted out than expected...... NOT like the fancy modern places with all the mod cons (you know, just like a Melbourne apartment with a few tropical plants!), but comfortable, relaxed and feeling like you're on holiday in Bali! Merapi had a huge living area and bedrooms upstairs, that gave us all space to move. No flat screen TV, but the two older TVs did us just fine. DVD and CD players too.

The restaurant at the front was popular with patrons beyond the villa guests and had a low key entertainment programme that was enjoyable. Great for the cheap meals at home to alternate with all the fantastic restaurants in the area... La Lucciola, Ku De Ta etc are all a cheap taxi fare away if you don't want to walk! That red bean soup was fantastic!

The spa at the back offers great service and there's an amazing Tango club associated with it.

Villa Kresna Sunset Villiage is not close to the beach, but then again the beach on the west coast is pretty miserable. The water is brown & polluted and it's not like we wanted to rush and swim there daily. We very much rated this location as being fabulous in relation to the restaurants and shopping in Seminyak.

Staff were all wonderful. They were very accommodating with requests and helped me out tremendously when I needed to make a police report over some items left in a taxi.

My only complaint would be the pool...and this is not specific to this hotel only, but rather a complaint about all these small boutique private pools. Our kids swam all day in a few big hotel pools, they swam all day at Waterbom Park and they swam at Safari Park, and all was fine. When they swam in the fancy small boutique pool in Ubud they immediately got fungal/bacterial infections and when they swam in the small private pool shared between the 5 villas they got blisters on their fingers and ear infections. I asked to see the water tested and the clorine level and PH level were both well below the recommended levels. Another friend complained of the same with her complex's plunge pools. So while the idea of a small private pool is lovely, our kids fared far better in the big hotel pools.

I'd thoroughly recommend Villa Kresna Sunset Villiage to anyone looking for the villa experience with out paying top dollar and without expecting a luxurious or modern setting.

We spent 5 nights at Maupiti - Sunset Resort in July 2009. Maupiti has a very large living room and kitchen in the grand floor where you can step into a semi-private swimming pool. A bedroom with a basic king-size bed, a spair room with an extra loft space and bathroom & shower are in the second floor. Villa itself has no Balinese taste decoration wise but very unique and clean. There were four villas in our conpound sharing a swimming pool but private enough. The restaurant right in front of the entrance offered a very nice breakfast which included in the price. We surf so we prefered to stay at Tropical Resort location wise but it was full so we had Maupiti instead. However it was easy to get to the beach even with our surfboards. Maybe Maupiti was too big for 2 people but if you have a family or more than 2 people then a very good value. Only downside was a low pressure of shower and hot water was not very hot most of the time. Also if you prefer abusolute privacy and posh style then this place may not be the one. However we were very happy as Kresna met our needs. People were nice, not over friendly but gave us peace and good service. Great location to be and good value!
