Ok so I was very excited about coming to this new hotel, the reviews were great, the hotel looked funky, modern and new, just what we were after. We travel to Bali 2 to 3 times a year and have stayed in various hotels and villas from 3 stars to luxury 5 stars such as the W and the Anantara so we've had many different experiences.
The hotel is in quite a good location, maybe 15 mins walk to the beach but only 2 minutes from the busy street which has many shops, restaurants and bars on. Now our room was on the road side and it was a little noisy it didn't really bother us but you can hear the traffic outside so if this kind of noise bothers you maybe ask for a room overlooking the square, however the square looks like it will be opening lots of new restaurants and bars shortly so it may not stay quite for long. This is a kind of city hotel so if you are after a really chilled quiet hotel this may not be for you. The beach resorts maybe a better option.
The hotel looks pretty impressive from the outside when you enter, the lobby is fantastic and they have an area for staff to help you with anything you need, restaurant reservations, shopping etc.
The rooms are great, very modern definitely 5 star, there is a freestanding bath which you can watch movies or the TV in as it opens to the bedroom, we loved the layout and thought a lot of care had gone into the rooms. They are extremely clean and the free mini bar (non alcoholic) is a great touch. Only 1 small problem there are no irons and ironing boards in the room not too much of a problem but it took over 2 hours for reception to get us one and when we got it, it was tiny like a child's with cartoons on it, bless the staff I think they may have had to go and buy one quickly. They also forgot to leave towels one day in the room, again a minor fault.
The staff are amazing here, they can't do enough for you, they try to learn your name and go out of their way when they can. The beverage staff may need a little extra training with what they do and don't have on the menu as we ordered lunch one day it took about 20 mins for them to bring my dish over and tell us they didn't have my husbands, so he had to reorder while I ate mine, then his took so long we had to cancel it as he had to go to the spa and he missed out on eating anything.
Now I think what let's the hotel down for me was the food. The menu is very basic it only has 4 or 5 mains on it which seems to be for lunch, poolside, dinner and room service and this definitely makes you want to leave the hotel. We had a couple of dishes and the food wasn't bad just lacking in variety. The hight tea was terrible, probably the worst I've ever had, boring, unimaginative, cakes were terrible, scones were like biscuits, we were starving so we ate a few savoury dishes which were ok.
The breakfast was very basic definitely not 5 star, not much variety, very similar everyday, juices weren't fresh, food was very bland definitely not what I was expecting from this new hip hotel. I thought it would exciting, fresh and creative.
The facilities are great, the pool is awesome and we just loved everything about it, lots of beds, great music definitely our favourite part of the hotel.
The spa was ok, it's not relaxing at all, as it's situated in a corridor between the male and female toilets so when I was getting massaged I could hear people showering and talking. There is no music in the room, the beds aren't professional massage beds and don't have a hole for your head so if you having a 90min massage you may feel pretty uncomfortable on your front. However the girl that did my massage was fantastic, probably one of the best back massages I've ever had!
All in all in its a good hotel, the room are super, it's clean, the survive is impeccable but it's almost like they've built this awesome hotel trained all these great friendly staff but are cutting costs on certain things like the spa and the food and beverage department.
