I found it difficult to find Seminyak accommodation in our price range, and was delighted to get a last minute deal at Mutiara for approx $67 USD a night. The hotel was a lot classier than we expected for that low price! Clean fresh white linen was a nice change from our usual budget Bali haunts. Upstairs room with balcony was perfect for our needs and the hotel itself was quiet, with a lovely pool and open air gym. Breakfast cooked to order from a menu was included and was a great way to start the day. Hotel was only a short walk to the "Eat Street" restaurant strip, but I was glad we had a torch for the walk home along the unlit narrow back streets.
Tea and coffee making facilities were in the room, but only two sachets of each were supplied per day. Wifi didn't work for the last two days of our stay which was frustrating.
The hotel wasn't forthcoming about its services, so I had a quick read on previous reviews and learnt that the hotel would drop you off to places within Seminyak. We would get a lift to Bintang Supermarket and then walk back. Mutiara dropped us at the airport for our flight home.
We enjoyed our stay and will definitely return to this lovely hotel.

We stayed at Mutiara Bali for 4 nights in a standard room, for the low price we thought it was a great choice. Its location is ideal for walking to Seminyak Square and for visiting local Restaurants and Bars. The accommodation is nice, clean and quiet and the pool was also very nice (no swim up bar, which we liked) . The breakfast was basic but fresh. Overall it was a lovely start to our holiday and the friendly & kind Staff had a lot to do with this. We will definitely stay at Mutiara Bali again but maybe next time we will try a villa.

My wife and I stayed for three nights at Mutiara Bali Boutique in Seminyak. Mutiara means "pearl" in Indonesian. At night the pool area resembles a bright jewel among the rural-dark roads and scores of small boutique hotel-fronts in the surrounding area. It is the main view of most of the rooms and the focal point of the hotel section of the complex. There is also a villa section with walled compounds, each with private pool. We booked a deluxe room on the ground floor, set back from the pool. The rooms on the second floor appear to be smaller "family rooms" with balconies. The price of the room included breakfast and airport pick-up/dropoff, both of which were on-time and took less than 30 minutes.

We didn't need a hotel that was right on the beach. The last time we visited the Seminyak area, we had a choice between the Mutiara Bali and Kokonut Suites in Kerobokan. We wish we had chosen Mutiara Bali last time because the staff are better trained, more restaurants are within walking distance, the pool is better, and maintenance of the facilities is much better. Everything worked.

Location
From the hotel it is a 5-minute walk along paved roads past other boutique hotels to popular restaurants such as Cafe Bali, Kaizan, Nirvana, Chandi, Ultimo, and Trattoria on Jl. Oberoi (leave the Mutiara hotel, turn right, and take the next right to reach Jl. Oberoi). We had a memorable Indonesian-fusion dinner (be sure to make reservations) in the air-conditioned wine room at Chandi Restaurant, and we recommend the food and service. The cook, Pak Agung, is Balinese with years of experience in the U.S. Watch out for the prices at Mini-marts: they're about 35% higher than at Circle-K.

Breakfast
The free breakfast is served from 7-10 in an open pavilion that has about 12 tables. Guests order from a menu of options (American breakfast, continental breakfast, English breakfast, full Irish breakfast, oatmeal/rice porridge, alternative breakfast), and the food is brought to the table. Usually they bring a small extra treat such as fried banana, fried apple, fried tempe. The other guests at breakfast were young and old couples, no families.

Quiet enjoyment
The hotel rooms are in two-storied buildings that surround the pool on three sides. Our room 133 was in a quiet location at the far end of the pool. We heard the guests upstairs walking but the noise was not at all obtrusive. We heard no neighbor noise on either side. Once in a while a child would shout in the pool, but not for long, and not with other children. Part of the bathroom roof is open to the stars (protected by a screen), so we could hear all the noise of the street when we were in the bathroom. Yet there was no street noise in the room, and it was so quiet that we could hear the sound of water falling off the roof during an early morning rain.

Pool
The pool is long, somewhat narrow, and quite popular. At one end of the pool is an open-air fitness center. The pool is artistically lighted at night (see photos), and it is very popular among guests.

Room
Our room was large with a king-sized bed, plasma screen TV with HBO, Cinemax, Star Movies, and a refrigerator with freezer compartment. The room was simply and sparsely decorated. The bathroom is almost as large as the bedroom. It was clean and well maintained. Hot water was available immediately, and water pressure was good. There is a wardrobe in the bathroom entry area where sandals and an umbrella are kept. The coffee maker works well, and coffee was replenished faithfully.

Service
Service was generally friendly, efficient, and gracious. Rooms are cleaned quickly by teams of two or three men. The reception desk staff are helpful. Check in and check out was easy.

Wi-fi
The free wi-fi signal in the room was good. We often had to try several times to log in on the CBN Hotspot. Wi-fi can be slower during peak hours. There are two computers in the lobby for those who don't bring their own laptops.

We felt comfortable throughout our stay. In the envelope with our receipt, they slipped a couple of small Balinese face mast refrigerator magnets as momentos of the experience; nice touch. When we return, we will stay again at Mutiara Bali, remembering this relaxing vacation and the very reasonable room rate.

Wanted a resort in Seminyak as it was supposedly (and it was) more peaceful than Kuta. Eventually shortlisted Mutiara for 4-nights stay due to its value and picturesque swimming pool.

Taxi ride took about 20-30mins from the airport. Location was near to the famed Oberoi Street with many restaurants (10 mins walk). However, when it got dark, the road out to the main street was either dimly lit or not lit up at all and one had to be careful of vehicles as the road was pretty narrow.

You get to choose from different types of breakfast e.g. continental, american, alternative, local which was decent. Waiters/waitresses were friendlier than the front desk staff.

As for the swimming pool, it was as great as how it looked from the photos though the waters were a little cloudy but that was not a big issue.

The stay would have been almost perfect if not for an incident that occurred. On the second last day of our stay, we went out for a full day cycling trip. To our horror, we came back at the end of the day and found the room door to be fully opened! Fortunately, our room was located in a secluded corner and nothing was missing (just a lot of mosquitoes that flew in). Complained to front desk but all they said was they didn't know anything about it. *Shrugs* I would treat this as an isolated event and still recommend this resort to others for its charm and tranquility.

I was more than happy with this Hotel, it was in a great spot and really good value for money. Breakfast was a little boring but staff were friendly and helpful. Shopping down the road is good and will keep you entertained. Bathroom was huge a very well done-very resort like, Hotel was nice and quiet. Would definitely go back.

Only stayed one night at the Mutirara but our stay was pleasant. We were given a family sized room which was huge and had a semi-outdoor bathroom.

The pool and gardens are beautiful and generally quiet with the exception of the occasional motorbike on the road outside. The location is a bit far to walk to the main areas of Seminyak but the hotel runs a shuttle to the beach and Seminyak.

Breakfast was lovely with a nice selection of food and served in a nice courtyard. The staff were also friendly and helpful.

Great value for the facilities available.

I have just spent three nights at the Mutiara. I booked via wotif and had a superior room overlooking the pool for $65 a night which is a great deal for the area. The deluxe rooms seem like a waste of money they are the same with a balcony that is a fraction bigger. I preferred the upstairs rooms as the downstairs had no privacy in their outside deck.

The rooms were simply designed and you can see where they've saved to allow these rates as some of the furnishings are basic. However, the style in simple and clean and rooms are spacious. The lcd TVs are great, there was lots of cupboard space which i like, no problems with anything in the room or bathroom at all.

The pool was really wonderful and much more than I'd expect from a hotel of this class. Really made the place. I was in there for a few swims a day, I reckon it is maybe 25 or 30 metres and as the hotel is quite small there's lots of space for everyone. It's partly sunny and partly shady which is great. They dont bring pool towels though, you need to ask for them.

Breakfasts were good, I thought the pancakes tasted a bit wierd but the egg white omelettes were gorgeous. Lots of choice of breakfasts teas and juices and I love that each breakfast is made fresh, no buffet. I ordered a Nasi goreng for room service and this was very good too.

I used the spa for a massage and a scrub and both were very, very good. A bit pricier than you'd pay elsewhere but the standard was certainly high, so I didnt mind for the convenience of using the hotel spa.

Wifi was great no issues the whole time.

I tried to use the fitness centre but as it is open air found it much too humid to work out, which was a shame.

Staff were lovely, nothing too much trouble at any time.

The area is great for restaurants as others have said. It's worth knowing that you can't swim at Seminyak beach. I asked the hotel for directions to the beach and walked there, it was around 25 minutes, then had to walk about another 30 minutes along the beach to a place I could swim.

I am now in Ubud and while this hotel is ok I miss the Matiara already :-)
