We have been to Bali quite a few times and usually stay in Legian and absolutely LOVE it. We had heard only good reports about Seminyak so decided to stay there this time. After researching hotels on TA, we decided to try The Breezes (formerly Contiki I believe). I had high hopes of a buzzing atmosphere with plenty of action at the pool bar and short strolls to Eat Street. WRONG!! I hate reading bad reviews on TA and quite often think that the “reviewer” just has sour grapes or likes to whinge – please bear in mind that I am trying to be as honest and fair as possible. So, I will start with the good points about the hotel – and there are plenty. The staff are lovely! Each time you wander through the halls to your room all the staff stop to say hello which is lovely. The pools are really nice and well set out and the rooms are very clean, the beds are firm but comfy and the aircon more than sufficient. The balconies and views are great and they spray your room for mozzies every night. The food was great – we ordered room service at all times of the night and it was delicious!
Now, time for the bad. The pool bar. We LOVE pool bars and this is what swung us to pick the Breezes in the first place. However, it was virtually impossible to even order a drink at the pool bar without practically climbing over the counter and waving frantically to try and get attention of the staff. We waited for over 10 minutes at times just to place an order. When you finally did get a drink, the stools sat on the surface of the water leaving your entire body from the knee up, totally out of the water and about half a meter away from the bar so you might as well have been out of the pool anyway. The only other “Unfortunate” pool incident was not the hotels fault but there was a rather roudy group and one guest decided it was funny to dance on the bar, slipped and dropped a pint glass in the pool which, of course, was smashed into tiny shards which in turn stayed around for days haunting us and cutting up our toes no matter how careful we were.
We were also a little disappointed on check-in that we were given a twin share room, but they pushed the 2 single beds together for us and although it wasn’t ideal, it didn’t bother us too much as we were told there were no other double rooms available during our stay (5 nights). We were also lucky enough (sarcastic) to have the adjoining room to a rather vocal 2 year old who decided to get up and run about on the balcony every single morning from 6.30am onwards. Not ideal whilst on a relaxing holiday but again – not the hotels fault but added to our experience. I guess the other unfortunate thing (and perhaps not researched well enough by us) was that what we thought was going to be a “short stroll” to Eat Street turned out to be a hike through a back road with no paths and no lights for about 20 minutes. Needless to say, after our first time walking we caught cabs from there on in. It was a bit too far to walk to Eat Street and a bit too far to walk to Legian so it was sort of hanging around in the middle of nowhere.
So, all in all, we won't be staying at The Breezes again, when we go back to Bali next year, we will stay in Legian again.

Beautiful hotel, fabulous staff!
Staff go out of their way to connect with guests and ensure that you're enjoying your stay. There are plenty of activities at the hotel, that if you never leave the hotel grounds, you could still experience a lot of what Bali has to offer.
The pools are divine, and the hotel is great if you're travelling with children - with areas that you can let the kids run around and enjoy themselves, without worrying if they're annoying other guests.
Facilities are wondeful, the food was always delicious and plentiful!
The hotel is a 2 minute walk to the beach, and to walk along the beach to Kuta beach would take about 20 - 30 minutes.
Great shopping and nightlife immediately upon leaving the hotel, but no pestering from the local shopkeepers.
I would definitely stay there again, and would recommend this hotel to anyone!

We stayed here for 9 nights and were offered a 'pool view' room. However all the rooms here bar a few are pool view rooms as the whole complex is built around the pool. This is one of the problems here. The noise.. If its not from the kids playing in the pool, its the music played at the pool bar, craig david/lady ga ga over and over again...more about the music later. Or its the groups of people drinking at the pool bar throughout the day until late at night, OR if thats not enough it will be from the hotel bar, live band night or kareoke night (Tacky) The management should really have better control over the volume. The pool music should be in the back ground not emanating a club night.. even the balanease music at breakfast (which is lovely) is put on at full whack at about 8am...there is certainly no chance of a lie in at this resort. This is a real shame because the actual resort is quite nice visually. The staff are lovely, the rooms are ok if not a little dated, mosquito nets nice touch although the staff do come into you room about 5 times a day for various things unless you request not to be disturbed!! Its just not relaxing and we found ourselves staying away from it as much as possible. We stayed in Seminyak because we were expecting something more upmarket than Kuta or Legian but you wont find that at The Breezes.
We left a deposit of 1,000000 rp which were told would be refunded 7 days after we left on may 21st ..it still hasnt been refunded 20 days later and they are yet to respond to my emails...
All in all, this place seemed to attract young family's from Australia, they seemed to be enjoying themselves as its well catered for them with kids activities and the pool, but if you are looking for something more relaxing and balanese i definately wouldnt recommend it.

After reading mixed reviews on The Breezes I was a little nervous; even though the place was recommended by our travel agent. Imagine my joy to discover that the nervousness was all for nothing! This place was absolutely lovely – the vastness of the pool was breath-taking and the staff are so welcoming and friendly. We loved the daily walk from our hotel to legian and kuta so that we could get amongst the hectic haggle of Bali but still return to our serene surroundings! If you don’t want to walk, taxis are aplenty – I will say though do NOT catch the taxi’s right outside the hotel; walk a little up to the main drag and catch one from there – the ones in front of the hotel seem too keen to rip you off (but that’s not the hotel’s fault)! The swim-up bar was fantastic with cocktails and beers reasonably priced; try their burger – its fantastic! The other end of the pool was the kids area which had this really pretty artificial beach.

If you don’t like climbing some stairs ask for a ground floor room – Bali has laws that stipulate you cannot have a lift in a hotel if the place is 3 floors or less (this place has 3 floors). We weren’t fazed though – a few stairs were fine with us! We stayed in the standard room (which they called a deluxe room) and found it nice for the 2 of us – it had a safe, very clean bathroom with clean towels everyday and other ‘basics’ like a TV and fridge and offcourse a nice cold air conditioner! Every night we’d come back to find the pretty mosquito net drawn over the bed – a beautiful touch!

Other than that the only thing I can say is that I am planning a family trip (including in-laws) to Bali in late January and I am booking us all into The Breezes – I think that says a lot! I would definitely recommend this place – we came back refreshed and relaxed… and looking forward to our next trip there!

In searching for a hotel - The Breezes certainly met our main goals - this was having a great kids pool and having somewhere for the toddlers int he group to rest and watch a DVD if necessary.

The positives - the kids pool included an artifical beach which our toddlers loved, the staff around the hotel were very friendly, including security. The kids corner was pretty limited, but was fine for toddlers, though would be boring for any older kids. The resort had a fun vibe to it, no doubt a legacy from it's Contiki days. It still attracts the boozy Aussie crowd, but there was no loutish behaviour.

The passable - breakfast was average in comparison to Asian standards - however everything that I would normaly eat was there and the breakfast ladies were particularly friendly. The rooms (standard) in general were small and need an update - i think perhaps other rooms have been done up.

The negatives - the reception staff are very cold and the smiles seem forced (unlike the rest of the staff), we had cold water in our shower for all 5 days of our stay, even having mentioned in 3 times, our other room had a leaking air-con - though they did try and fix it. The location is a fair walk to Legian St - and would require a bluebird to Oberoi.

Overall we like to see the positive side - and given our focus was fun with our kids - the hotel provided what we wanted.
