The Taman Ayu
Ranked #111 of 147 Hotels in Seminyak
Reviewed 20 November 2013

The Taman Ayu Cottages are situated in a handy position on Petitenget Road. Close to some good restaurants, DVD shops, coffee shops, boutiques mini marts etc. There is a laundry down the street (has two cages out front that house dogs) near The Deck restaurant. But we found them a quite a lot dearer than the other laundries on the east side of the hotel. The hotel is well laid out with about 4 double storey blocks spaced amongst very nice gardens and all handy to a decent size and deep swimming pool with bar and paddle pool. There are about 5 villas at the rear of the property. The staff are friendly and helpful. The super deluxe rooms are quite big and clean and offer the normal lcd tv, dvd player, fridge, wifi, tea and coffee making gear, good a/c, decent bathroom, safe and a spacious balcony.

I normally don't dine at hotel restaurants, but in this case the hotel restaurant is one of the best and cheapest around and does not charge taxes. The food was cheap and as good as any in Bali and the Soto Ayam is one of the best I have ever tasted in my 28 years visiting Bali.

The only things that were disturbed me about the hotel were:

A. The Taman Ayu have sacrificed some of their lush tropical garden to build a three storey building housing another 12 rooms. To me the hotel is just the right size as it is. As it was, there were not many guests at the hotel when we stayed there.

B.Unfortunately the Aussie yobbos have found the place. They have stuffed Kuta and Legian and now they have invaded Seminyak.

Otherwise the place was fairly quiet.

Room Tip: Worth checking out the villas at the rear.

I don't have anything really negative to say about the place, sure it was a little shabby, but my room was clean and everything was in working order. Sure the breakfast wasn't anything to brag about, but it was priced right. The biggest thing was the staff, they were very friendly and helped me solve every problem, from scooter rental to obtaining a local sim card. two thumbs up for the staff!

And the location is great!

We only stayed here for one night at around $45 (AUD). We had a big room with a balcony. The shower had hot water with really good pressure. They also provided basic toiletries. The pool was lovely with a pool bar to order drinks. Overall its not 5 star of course but you do get what you pay for, and its actually not bad. The location is also great - note that it's not on the beach exactly but not far from it either. Also want to point out that we were budget travellers and ended up in Seminyak without a plan, and this was the cheapest place we could get after walking into around 5 or 6 other hotels.

I stayed here 5 nights and would definitely stay again. It was traditional old style Bali buildings, and while a little shabby round the edges, it was great value, clean and tranquil. The position next to the entrance to the W and close to Potato Head was ideal for me. Easy walk to cafes, restaurants and the beach or short taxi to other destinations. The room was large for the price, comfortable with balcony and a bath. Breakfast fine, I recommend the fluffy pancakes!

We stayed here for 8 nights in early September. Having never been to Bali, I didn't know what to expect. The staff here were attentive and friendly, without ever being in your face. The pool is great, very deep, and the breakfast was fresh and tasty, as were the rest of the poolside snacks we ordered. Room was clean, mosquitoes were only a minor annoyance, grounds were well kept and towels were clean. Great price for Seminyak, good location away from the noise of the street. Only negative would be the constant pop music by the pool - would have been better to keep the gamelan on instead!

This is one of the lovely older style Bali hotels, , we had the delux room , great value for money . The hotel was clean and comfortable , it could use a bit of a renovation but for the money we paid for our room, how can i complain. I did not really enjoy the music being played around the pool area and the TVs in the restaurant. We probably would have eaten more in the restaurant and it was good food and great value , but the TV with the football put us off .
I would love to stay here again but it is unlikely as I did not enjoy Jalan Petitenget. It is a difficult street to walk along and much too touristy.

I'm happy to inform you, not only have renovations already begun on our rooms and restaurant but Jl Petitenget now has wonderful new footpaths.
The music we play in the restaurant and pool areas has also been reviewed and only a few major football games will be shown in future.
We sincerely hope you will join us again one day.

The place seems very dated. We stayed at the 2-bedroom villa. The rooms and bathrooms were big. The places needs to be refurbished. The rooms did not smell fresh. I have stayed in much better places in Bali at a similar price. Breakfast was ok. The one big plus.....location. Very close to all many restos and clubs. Will not really recommend the place....however do check as some new construction was underway

Room Tip: Regular rooms which are more frequented.....avoid the villas
