“Great first night in Seminyak”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014 via mobile

After spending nearly two hours in the line at immigration at the airport, we were very much looking forward to our pre-booked dinner at Urchin. And it didn't disappoint. We shared two entrees - scallops seared to perfection with delicious cauliflower and potato and with a sherry caramel sauce (sounds a bit odd but was delicious) and a trout carpaccio - which to our taste lacked a little zing but there's no doubting the freshness of the fish. For mains we had a crispy skinned red snapper fillet that was ABSOLUTELY delicious (a big call from someone who doesn't eat much white fish) and a seared tuna which, like the trout, lacked a little seasoning. Nothing wrong with it, but just not as good as the snapper. We also shared the passionfruit soufflé for dessert - and glad we did as it was enormous - and quite good. Overall the food was good. The service was "almost there" - the local staff tried very hard but lacked many of the niceties that their Aussie owners seemed to be aiming for (e.g. Took our food order before asking for our drink order). Worth a look if you order carefully.

“Must Try New Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

I liked this restaurant so much I went twice in one week! I've dined at nearly every top restaurant In Bali and this one is challenging them all. The food is very important, but so too is the service, ambience and value for money, and they get a big tick in all departments. The staff are still learning to totally integrate, once they do watch out - you will be booking weeks in advance! Onya Steve and Cathy

“Good food and a nice atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

My boyfriend and I had dinner at Urchin on our recent trip to Bali as it had received great reviews on Tripadvisor.

Service was great - Kathy is a wonderful host and we liked the open kitchen concept. We tried the signature pork dish which was very tasty but we found it to be a little dry. The fish dishes were pretty good. The souffle dessert was excellent though.

This palce was close to our villa so we were able to walk home which was also good. Not hard to find for us - just across the road from the Samaya next door to Sea Circus.

“Elegant, fresh and delicious.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014 via mobile

Our flight was delayed on Monday, and so we were fortunate to squeeze in one more dinner before flying home, and we chose to dine at Urchin. We had mixed sashimi and scallops for our entrees. Scallops were cooked perfectly, and their flavour shone through with the simple accompaniments on the plate. The sashimi was fresh, delicious and just the right temperature. We then had prawns and snapper. The crisp skin on the snapper was divine, and the prawns were simply prepared, perfectly cooked and tasty.
The food here is beautifully prepared, and not overly fussy , so you can taste all the wonderful seafood flavors. Our desserts too, were fresh and light, the perfect finish to a fab meal. Attentive service and a great vibe in the restaurant. We will be back!

“New comer in Seminyak”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014 via mobile

Just heard about this restaurant from tripadvisor. So we gave it a try last May.
First impression; nice setting and friendly staff. However the food was just ok, we expected more. There's no WOW factor on it.
For returning again next time? I don't think so.
