“Beautiful hotel full of details!”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

We were celebrating my dad's birthday and as soon as we arrived the Manager on Duty was there to introduce herself and welcome us with a birthday cake. All staff was really friendly. The rooms were absolutely amazing, huge bed, balcony with big bathtub, great view of the ocean and full of small details that make the difference, (I loved the sketchbook in the room and the homemade chocolates!)
I cannot say enough, we had a wonderful time. I just wish we could have stayed longer!

This hotel is actually nice, the room is very spacious equipped with a outdoor jacuzzi in the balcony facing the sea! But the furnitures look a bit tired n the toilet didn't smell very fresh, this brand is a five star however some parts of the hotel don't meet up the five star standard especially thier lifts and the reception which is very tiny at the corner! The service is six star I swear, thier breakfast is super , it's a semi buffet breakfast u can choose ur main dishes from the menu and the ingredients are all super fresh and nice! The location I guess is convenient because it's at the end of the road in front of the beach.

We recently stayed with our 13 month old boy. After some confusion with check in (note, you are unlikely to be checked in before 2pm, several of the staff made it very clear that check in was 2pm) we were given extremely spacious room, which was excellent given we needed space for a cot and some room for play.

The bathroom has no doors and there is a window that allows people in the main part of hue he room to look straight through into the bathroom, which is not great if you have other people in your room (as we often did with a Nanny) and also not great when you need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, as the turning the bathroom lights on lit up the entire room.

On a positive note, meals for the baby were free, which was very nice and not often seen in Seminyak.

Perhaps on the pricey side for what you really get, I think there are many other options that would be as good and cheaper. Similarly, there are not a tremendous number of options to eat in the area, and given we wanted to stay close to the hotel for our boy, we quickly got tired of the hotel food.

Dear Stephen B.

Thank you for your review. Its great to see you and your family overall enjoyed your visit and we appreciate your feedback. Seems we did a poor job of explaining our optional blinds for increased bathroom for those who occasionally need an alternative to our open style. My apologies for that but rest assured, this option is available at a moments notice if required.

Happy to see you took full advantage of our convenient location and hope we can welcome you back in the future!

With best regards

We recently stayed at the Ananatara Hotel, Seminyak. A lovely hotel situated right on the beach in Seminyak. The hotel was very clean, rooms were extremely spacious and the hotel staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. Each room (as far as i could see) had its own balcony and some rooms had a view of the ocean (some might be more obscured by trees than others) and some rooms had pool access direct from your balcony. Apart from the penthouse suites at the very top, Ocean view suites are considered the best, while pool access suites can be either Ocean View side, or in a courtyard near the back of the hotel.

Our room (205) was an Ocean view suite, situated at the same level as the restuarant/pool area and was therefore really easy to access and quick if you needed to get to your room. Looking out over the balcony you could see, through the trees, the ocean and to be honest, i think the treeline didnt obscure the view much and was very nice. Possibly for guests staying one level higher than us, the trees might be a bit more of a problem. However, we looked down from our balcony onto the pool access suites below and we also considered these ones (ocean side) to be really good so tried to move - but they were not available and was considered a downgrade - so no idea if there would of been a refund if we did manage to do this.

Our balcony was right next to main walkway for hotel guests to access the sun loungers / beach and although there were some wooden slats to mask the view in/out, people could still see in - so it could be a little off-putting if you wanted to relax in the hottub on the balcony and people were walking by. I also noticed that a couple of rooms beside and above us seemed to have pull-down blinds around the hottub area for a little more privacy - strange as the room that needed it most (ours) didnt!

The room itself was spacious and the bed was absolutely massive and really comfortable. You get a 32" LCD TV, mini bar, lounge area, tea/coffee machine and a wardrobe/dressing area with a safe. The bathroom is massive with a walk-in shower room and you can use the ceiling shower or the spray showerhead. Theres a massive bathtub and also toilet area. Ive got to say at this point, the whole bathroom area bit is a bit voyeuristic - you can see straight through from the lounge/bedroom to the bathroom / bathtub and pretty much into the toilet where there is just a piece of frosted glass to prevent you from seeing everything going on while someone is on the loo. Its also worth noting the public/main hotel toilet is also very much like this - so while your sitting there you are very much aware that people can see you and what you are doing.

Breakfast was included in our package and we were given a menu each morning from which we could choose - things like steak and eggs, belgium waffles, pancakes, local food, sea food - the choices were plenty and the quality was really good. I will say however they were not the best at making sure the eggs were properly cooked and twice we had to send ours back. You could also fill your boots with the buffet while you waited for your breakfast - toast, cereals, pastries etc and fresh juices. Each morning we were given tasters of the smoothie of the day - all were nice and refreshing.

During the day we spent a lot of time on the sun loungers. These were lovely and plentyful. The attendants were eager to please and catered for your every request - whether its laying out your towels for you and making you comfortable, bringing you your complimentary basket of goodies which contained free, ice cold water, sun lotion, cold face towels and fresh fruit each - or to helping you change position of your lounger or sunshade to ensure you get the most sun. You also get a menu to choose from if you need a snack etc and a little flag to waive for attention.

Being beachfront, you obviously get a lot of attention from the sellers on the beach peddling their local wares etc - we didnt buy anything but some did. They didnt hassle much but they were up and down the beach all day so you saw them plenty.

The beach itself was lovely and busy. In front of the hotel and all along you have sun loungers etc - but these do not belong to the hotel and you need to pay the locals for these - so we didnt use them. You can walk for miles in either direction and see the other hotels and sights along the way. If you go left along the beach from the hotel and walk about 3 miles you end up in Kuta - a very commercialised area with Mcdonalds, KFC, Pizzahut, Wendys etc - along with loads of shops/bars/restaurants. Quite nice, but not sure if i could stay there. Turn right from the hotel and you reach the quieter parts of Seminyak - and walk past hotels such as the Oberoi etc, turn right and you can end up at Seminyak square with other shops and markets - but if its shops you want then your better off walking up the street from the hotel towards the way you came in. Loads of shops/bars/restaurants are within a quick walk from the hotel doorstep and i didnt find anywhere else better in either direction.

Be careful though, there are hundreds of motorbike/scooters everywhere as this seems to be the main form of travel - we even saw kids riding them, dogs and babies as passengers etc. You are also constantly drawing attention from taxis tooting their horns at you in case you want a taxi.

We ate out almost every night. There are plentiful bars/restaurants to choose from - from the Outback (Ozzy) bar to the greek snack bar, to small street sellers all over the place. We had Porterhouse steak at the Ozzy bar which costs only a few pounds, pizza one evening and loads of other options all around. Local food seems to be rather too spicy for my other half but i loved it.

In the hotel one evening there was a BBQ on the lawn which was really nice and worthwhile. Loads of fresh fish or meats to choose from, BBQ'd for you and brought to your table. There was curries, stir-frys etc - and the price was reasonable too.

If your taking currency, i recommend changing your money while out there. There are loads of places to change it up but be careful, some rates are worse than others and some back of shop money changes are rumored to scam you of your money - so always try to use the authorised changers with purpose-built shops. I was typically getting 20,000IDR to the £1GBP.

Travel times from the airport is around 40-50 minutes - its not far - but the traffic can be quite heavy. The hotel offers its own taxi service at the cost of around $45USD/£30GBP - or you can take an airport taxi for about $10USD/£7GBP.

Regarding the airport: Arriving at Bali, the queue at the arrivals halls for Passport control, entry visas etc was massive and took a couple of hours to get through. Entry visas cost $25USD (its easier to use dollars than other currencies for this part).
Leaving Bali you need 200,000IDR each to exit the country. The airport is not that big but there are a few shops and bars / places to eat. They are refurbishing many parts so there could be more there in the coming months.

All in all, we had an amazing time and will definitely be coming back soon :)

Room Tip: Ocean View rooms are nice - try to get one on floor 2 or 4. Or better still, go for the pool access...

We stayed here for 5 nights with a one year old in an ocean view suite, our original booking was for a pool access suite but it wasn't available and we were upgraded to an ocean view suite.

The room itself was a great size - lots of space and great facilities and the open access balcony was quickly closed off to deter little explorers.

The breakfast was a real bonus with lots of options - we didn't eat the same thing twice during our stay. Staff were very attentive - esp with our little one - and nothing was too much trouble.

We didn't book into the spa due to the more reasonable price of treatments everywhere else.

Location wise / it's fantastic - right on the beach and near to other bars / restaurants. The pool itself isnt the biggest, but it was never truly busy.

The loungers and daily basket with water / fruit / sun cream etc was a really nice touch.

We also did the Indonesian night meal - the beef rendang was fantastic!! Good entertainment too.

Dear NoseyExplorer,

Thank you for choosing Anantara Seminyak, we are thrilled you, your wife and the little one enjoyed your visit! We are very proud of our staff who always try to give outstanding service to everyone but cute kids always get the most attention!

Delighted to see you review our signature Indigenous Indonesia Dinner (each Wednesday) also. Our chefs strive to deliver originality and authenticity in our Indonesian degustation sets incorporating flare from their local villages where possible and yes, the Beef Rendang is a total knockout - glad you enjoyed it.

Best wishes and we look forward to your return!

We stayed one night at the Anantara Resort and had an amazing stay. You can tell the hotel has been around for a couple of years but the quality of the service and the amenities in the room are perfect. The pool area with its beautiful lawn and a view on the ocean front is a perfect place to chill, enjoy the great food and fruit juices. I would recomment this hotel to anyone who is looking for a place to rest a little in Seminyak, in an area not as crowded as Kuta. The neighbouring restaurants are very good too. During the high tide the sea can get a little noisy but it is part of the charm of having an ocean view.
