We greatly enjoyed our stay at Matahari in November 2013. We stayed here for two weeks because we did not want to travel with our 8 month old daughter, who was treated like a little princess :). Every time we went diving, the staff lovingly took care of her and ensured that she was lacking nothing. She really loved it there! For us as fanatical divers one less care, so that we could dive a lot. Matahari is positioned ideally for the three dive sites in Tulamben: The coral garden right in front of the resort, the Liberty wreck and the drop off are respectively 200 meters to the left or the right. The SPA offers a good place to unwind after a day of diving, and another big plus for us was the swimming pool, nice cool and clean water and a bunch of fun for us and our daughter. In short: Matahari offers great value for your money and we will certainly stay there again when we visit Tulamben in the future!

Solo trip just for diving and decided to stay at Matahari. Room was pretty good. A bit basic but always kept clean, comfortable bed, good shower and aircon kept my room nice and cold. Not much more you could want really.

I went with an all inclusive dive package. Good value, allows unlimited diving, the included food was adequate and enough choices to keep me going. After the included food was over other dishes I tried at the restaurant were really nice.

One of the big pluses for me was the pool. It is a smaller pool but it was cool and water quality was great.

The dive center had a great bunch of guys in it and the SPA was a nice place to unwind.

The location of this resort is perfect.right on the Coral Gardens. 200 meter walk either way to the wreck or drop off which made diving so easy and convenient.

Room Tip: There all pretty good.

We spent 7 days during late October 2013 with a party of 5 Belgian divers.
We had booked a package arrangement including 3 days of unlimited diving at Tulamben, 6 extra dives by boat or car, 1 full day excursion and transport from and to airport (including excursion stops) and 2 treatments in the SPA..
All this was offered as indicated. But there was more: we were assigned a private diveguide, the time schedule was very flexible (no objections at all to last-minute changes), excursions and transport were in a comfortable minibus.
Accomodation was excellent in spacious and clean rooms. Food was well above average (certainly as good as elsewhere in Tulamben). The staff was extremely friendly and helpfull in many ways.
Especially for divers: the best dive site for critter hunting at Tulamben (Coral Garden) is right in front of this resort.
In short: a highly recommended place!!

Room Tip: the bungalow/deluxe rooms are somewhat more expensive, but certainly worth their value

In this pricerange is one of the best resorts in Tulamben except the food. We were dining next door and that was much, much better. The 'fresh tuna' is Brown and smells really like fish (too much!), the breakfast is Azian: eggs! ITS just ok. The juices are good, better then you expact. Rooms are big and clean. Power cuts are present weekly. Diving classes are ok, but be assertive: they dive on the first day (just ssi open water) to 22m without practise. Expect to pay a lot for a taxi, it's a difficult place to come and to leave, with local transport (bemo). Tulamben is really only for divers! It's not more then that!

Thank you for your nice comment that you like our place and rooms.

For food we are not agree with your comment. I am the owner and handle the kitchen because I love cooking. When you are here I was in the kitchen and we served absolutly fresh Tuna. The fish came direct from the fisherman and we saw your plates are always empty. In case you thought our food is not ok, we dont understand why you not direct tell our waiters and why you eat it.

Our breakfast is also not typical in this pricerange. We offer different meals and you can choose from our menue for breakfast. And not only eggs! Sorry that we dont serve cheese and sausages. In this way you are right, we are in Asia and our place is not expenisve.

For diving: Normally not neccessary to comment! Your first dive was not so deep and the instructor saw you are ok in the water, it was like a check dive.

For transfer this is not our fail. You made booking via Agoda means we can not contact you. Normally we inform the guests that we offer transfers or the guests contact us after booking. With Bemo you are right, it's difficult to come here.

For the electric it can happen and it's responsibility from our governmant and for this reason we have generator.

In the final, most guests come to Tulamben for diving and relaxing and we have many guests which enjoy to stay two or three weeks. But of course, if you like Party this is wrong place here.

We are very sorry to see this report because our staff in reception asked you if everything is ok and you said: YES.

We wish you a good time and that you can enjoy the rest of your holidays.

Brilliant all round! We are a couple of professional divers who visited for a short budget vacation and found this resort to be one of the nicest places we visited. All of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay, though we did not have a dive guide they were all very helpful in answering any questions that we had about diving.

We did not catch all of their names but one guy in particular “Gege” springs to mind, absolute legend! The location is perfect, food in the restaurant is top notch (as are the staff) and the whole place has a very homely relaxed atmosphere. Though we had our own dive equipment we could see that the rental equipment was in great shape and all diving standards seem to be adhered to. Also nitrox is free and all of our tanks were filled to the max!

Thumbs up all round Matahari, we will certainly visit you again and recommend you to all of our friends and any one we meet who plans to go diving while in Bali!

We did not catch your name but the gentleman at reception went above and beyond in helping us with bike rental and advice on places to visit.

hi there, i was staying at Matahari Tulamben Resort in Tulamben Bali on Mid October, We were taking Open Water Dive Course SSI. As those Diving Things were new for me, and i was waiting about 5 years to finally encourage myself on taking these dive course, of course i was excited/happy/nervous/terrified/.. for me, being unable to breathe with nose when we were underwater was terrifying. but fortunately we were on the right places at the right time with the right people. First, matahari tulamben resort is a very nice places, you can find calmy situation, windy breeze, sounds of the shores all day/night long. The view were amazing too, in the middle of mount agung and tulamben coast. The owner of the resort, Ibu Komang Suci was a very nice to us since the begining when we booked the course until the end of the day when we said goodbye :). Our room was nice with 3 beds, and hot water. we finish our 4 ocean dive with our dive instructor Bapak I Gede Disupardita/ "Didi" with amazing feeling inside, we were amaze by sea creatures and our underwater buoyancy :p. IMHO Pak Didi is a ***** (5 Star) Dive Instructor. We know we are safe when we were diving with him, also he teach us so many important things to know/do when we were underwater, huge thanks to him, we were able to finish our dive course succesfully. :), we also provided w/ 3 meals @day, great food. overall, Thank to Ibu Komang Suci, Pak Didi, and all staff at Matahari Tulamben Resort for amazing experiences, and hope to see you again :) Definitely in L O V E w/ Diving :) Last but not least, Y O U should see the USAT Wreck. that's one of our unforgetable moments.

As we love regulary travelling around Indonesia and are keen and experienced divers as well, we always like to spend a few days in Bali/Tulamben.
Before we haven't yet written any reviews about our experiences, just because of laziness i think. But we have to say that there are really a lot of places worth doing the effort.... so we decided to start today:
This year it was our first time in Mathari. There is not much to add to all the good reviews done before- First contact with the owner (Komang Suci) by E-mails was always very quick and helpful. Mathari is really a well organized place (Resort, Dive Center, SPA)! All the stuff (including the owner Suci and her friend Doris as well) seem to try all it's best to make their guests happy! The bungalows are clean and familar furnitured, the Restaurant with it's nice Seaview and breeze a nice place to enjoy almost whatever you want (considering that you are in Indonesia). The dive center is well run and in really propper condition. We have own equipment but rental stuff looked quite new and our rental torches for night dive have been the bests we ever got! Most of the time we did unguided dives, but also some guided ones. Thanks to Nengah! This guy has really good eyes for all the muck stuff and seems to be very enthusiasic as well. Also thanks to Instructor Didi for his 'Nitrox' support!
And last but not least if you feel like having 'holiday from holiday', just walk in and get an appointment in the very good and relaxed SPA (opened until 10pm!). For those who want to have more amenities...no problem, there are hammocks to chill and even a little nice swimming pool..!
What can we say more? Terima kasih Suci, Sampai jumpa lagi! Hopefully back soon!
