Spacious, peaceful hotel with large rooms, and nice bathrooms. It has a huge garden with a good-sized landscaped pool, which most rooms overlook from their balconies. The hot water is only available (as mentioned in other reviews) for limited periods morning & evening, but it wasn't a problem.
The restaurant serves mainly Indonesian breakfasts which are delicious. There is a small buffet selection of toast etc.
We ate one evening in the restaurant (which is very large!), but we were impressed with the quality & quantity of the dishes. The service was courteous & friendly too. Don't be put off by the size of the restaurant.
The location is on the main road, so it's pretty easy to get to the fruit & veg market. It was misty while we stayed but the views of the volcano must be lovely when it's clear.
Found all staff to be helpful & pleasant. Wi-fi in reception only.

This is actually a very very overdue review. We stayed here for a night during our trip to Medan in 2011 as far I remember, the room was nice and clean. It is actually the best hotel so far in our trip. Worth the money and very well recommended.

For those who intends to vist Berastagi , look no further , just book Grand Mutiara as i enjoyed my stay there recently .As you will note , many travellers had submitted their reviews earlier on this hotel too . The good points mentioned by most were finally confirmed when i personally stayed there for 1 night . Large and spacious room very clean with , a sette set in the room , private balcony , beautiful landscape and garden , wonderful bathroom , tea making facilities , good food and most of all friendly staff ,right from the english speaking reception right down to housekeeping . Like most hotels around this particular area , there's no elevator or air con .probably due to it's low rise structures and cool weather conditions . Anyway , the reception area are usually at 3rd floor so it's good to get rooms at 3rd or 4th floor . The huge fruit market is 5 - 10 mins drive from the hotel and you won't regret visiting this area for some fresh local fruits and grilled sweet corns . .

Room Tip: Try getting a room facing the spacious garen . You will surely enjoy your afternoon tea sitting at your rooms balcony and admiring the greenery and freshness instead of rooms facing the main road ,

Stayed one night in this resort, my review as follows:

1) Location: Near berastagi Town, Fruit market, near to Mikkie Holiday Water Theme Park, Hot Spring as well as the Golden Pagoda

2) Hotel Room: Very spacious with good comfy bed, new flat screen tv, outstanding spacious clean bathroom and bathtub.

3) Facilities: Very wide swimming pool and well maintained Garden. The karaoke room and wifi are not working entirely during our stay -(

4) Buffet Breakfast and Dinner Set: both are equally good and delicious.

Overall, good choice if you are in berastagi. very relaxing

Room Tip: Get a room facing the garden. Nice

We went to Medan for a short family trip and decided to visit Berastagi. Since it was not 100% planned, we had not booked any hotel and arrived there in the evening. We stopped at another hotel to check the rooms but were not too impressed. Then we came to Grand Mutiara expecting it to be much more expensive. Yes, it had higher pricing but was still very acceptable comparing the quality of the rooms.

We asked for two rooms as there were 6 of us. The check-in was a breeze, only took 5 minutes. The rooms were quite spacious, each with balcony and clean bathroom. Too bad connecting doors were only available on more deluxe class. Since we only needed to rest and leave again in 12 hours, we decided not to take it.

Check-out process was as easy. One of the officers was nice enough to catch up to me before I got into the car to give me back my identity card (KTP) which had been kept upon check-in and I had totally forgotten. To me that is a great service, considering you usually do not expect that in smaller tourist areas in Indonesia.
