This was a very nice, reasonably priced hotel. The bungalows were great and it was secluded, felt like a private beach. We had a lot of fun hanging out with the family who owns the place, they were really nice, and we were sad to go after our week there. I liked this place because it was clean and nice but still had a family touch, and much more affordable than some other bungalows nearby.

We were driven here by a taxi from the airport, the price was $10 in low season so it seemed reasonable enough. The room was standard no frills accommodation but there were big gaps from where the roof and the bungalow met. Luckily there weren't many bugs so thats a minor complaint really. The restaurant served average food for average prices.
The beach was nice and quite with deck chairs to lie on which was nice.
All sounds good but the main problem with the place was the crazy dogs. During the day you can walk in and out of the guesthouse as you please, the dogs are fine. As soon as it gets dark, it becomes wretchedly difficult to go anywhere. The dogs continuously bark at you, when one starts barking then 4 more come along and join in. Not just barking but growling and running towards you. It's all quite intimidating when all you want to do is go out for dinner. So leaving the place the dogs go nuts, and then you have to worry about coming back, because if you stay out till 10 then the owners go to sleep leaving you alone with the crazy dogs from hell. It was all quite stressful and unnecessary. I would NOT recommend this place solely because of the terrorising dogs situation.

Room Tip: barter down to $10....do not pay $45

RECEPTION,
We arrived in a bus with other passengers intending to stay at other hotels. The aggressive young woman at reception waved away the bus before a price or room had been agreed which we and the kind passengers stopped from happening. We asked for a smaller room and negotiated down from $20 to $18 per night if we stayed five nights, on closer inspection the bathrooms had square holes in the walls which I can only assume should house a window or mosquito mesh? The main bedroom also had open walls above the door where mosquitos or anything else would be welcome in and this resort is surrounded by swamp! We chose a larger bungalow with swamp view but windows, this was enormous and cost $25 per night with absolutely no discount for 5 nights which left our options open. This same woman had issues with her english when we wanted simple directions into town and just offered a motor scooter for rental. We informed reception on day 2 that we would be checking out the following day (their rules state 24 hours notice) and remarkably this same woman told us we were staying 5 nights as agreed so we reminded her of the conversation, she looked ready for a battle but we stood our ground and told her exactly how it was.
FOOD,
The local dishes contained INSTANT NOODLES, you know the ones that cost mere pennys to buy back home!!! These dishes were thrown together with simple vegetables and chicken with taste not a consideration!! The waiters give you a terrible folder for a menu and stand over you asking immediately what you want, we said just a couple of minutes and you don't see them again. We got up and placed our order fast food style but without the fast, if you see what I mean. They always try to push the 'fresh fish' cooked on an open fire/bbq so we decided 1kilo of the 'fresh' shrimp would make a really nice plate to share and they offered with garlic to which we said YES PLEASE. The following days we both spent our time taking turns on the toilet until the 'fresh shrimp' were out of our system!!! It was the only food we had both eaten and both had diarrhea for days following!!!
THE ROOM,
On the face of it a huge bungalow near the beach in Vietnam sounds great. Our bungalow showed daylight through part of the roof and all the way round where roof joins walls and big gap beneath the door so we shared our room with the wildlife!! We had a swamp view so could not see the beach or see, it's a huge swamp!!! The thatched roof drops black bits and hadn't seen a cleaner in a while, my girlfriend used the sweeping brush they leave in your bungalow to sweep the bugs and dirt to one side of our room. There is no air con, no tv, no cleaner but a fan and fridge and from some time in the early hours our electricity was cut so we awoke with no fan, no fridge and no lights til about 6pm that evening and all for $25 per night. We had no cleaner the second day so my girlfriend swept the bungalow and the heap of dirt was incedible by the morning of our check out.
SUMMARY,
So if you want this kind of holiday where the service doesn't exist and the reception treat you with contempt and see purely a dollar sign on your head, where there's no electricity, cold showers and food poisoning on the menu then this is the holiday for you!! We moved about 2km down the road into town and stayed at the A74 Hotel/Guesthouse which was an absolute pleasure with always a smile and a great welcome at $20 per night including breakfast, simple excellent local food in their Vespa Cafe, free internet, they gave me free printing when I offered to pay, roof top terrace with great views to the sea, rooms with fridge, air con, hot water and approx five minutes walk to the town or beach. The manager was Binh who was a breath of fresh air as was the whole team their and I believe we met one of the Australian owners who was tending to the pot plants in the cafe and reception area, he was really personable and very helpful. Please look at Tripadisor if you are unsure.

Our bungalow was a decent size, clean and well serviced every day. The staff were very very helpful. The airline lost my luggage and they went out of their way to phone the airline for me on two occassions (not even charging me for the calls which they made from their cell phones). Their restaurant is very very cheap.
The bungalows are very close to the beachfront which is very clean. Use of deck chairs etc...are free. We paid USD 20 per night per room. Highly recommended! Of course if you are looking for 5 star accommodation best you go for the 'resort' type hotel.

This place was just perfect. The staff were friendly and some spoke great English. The rooms were big with everything one needs and nothing you don't. The bungalows are about 100 feet from the beach, where there is a great restaurant. Soccer balls, volleyballs, and snorkeling equipment available for free. Good food/drinks and cheap. And the beach may as well be private. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Myself and boyfriend stayed here over xmas. At first we were delighted to get a room as it was the busy xmas period. however on reflection we found the bungalow to be very overpriced at $45 pn with air con being the only luxary!
At the begining of our stay the staff were very pleasant and helpful however this all changed when we tried to settle our bill the night before we were due to check out.
The owner had mixed up the check out dates of the previous occupents of the bungalow and tried to charge us for a night we were not there.
When we tried to explain to her and show her evidence that we had stayed at another hotel on the night in question she would not believe us. Saying that it was too much money for her to loose. In the end we had to go back to the hotel we first stayed at and ask them to ring the owner and cnfirm again that we did not stay at her hotel on that date!! it definately tainted our views on the place. And if that wasnt enough our room tab had other ppls orders on it that we were expected to pay for, but by this point we had had enough and paying for some cheeky travellers beer seemed easier than trying to reason with the owner!!
Other than this the place is located on a lively part of the beach and the weather was always good. As for phu quoc its self we found a lot of the beach areas to be littered with rubish and beach fire remains.
locals here are really friendly tho and well worth a few drinks with!!
